DD was 9lbs 6 oz and didn't stay THAT big, but is still in the 80th percentile
DS was 7lbs 13 oz (at 37 weeks gestational age...) and got tiny, below the 5th percentile, and then got huge. He is 18 months old and in the 95th percentile.

@stargal: I don't think 8lbs6oz is really extremely large. A bit above average but not much.

I've also noticed that it depends at what stage of a growth spurt she is in matters for her percentiles. Sometimes she is higher percent for weight, but then she would grow in height and be higher there.

Yes. He's pretty consistently been in the upper 80-mid 90th percentiles for weight and height, and the times he was lower he was measured right before a growth spurt. He's not a chubby baby, because he's tall...he's very solid though, and has been since he was born. We joke that we never had a floppy newborn, but it's true. I'm pretty sure that all of his weight is muscle.

@Cherrybee: Ive read that a lot of times when a baby is really small at birth (like preemies especially) they grow really quickly at first to make up for it.

My LO was exactly in the 50th percentile for weight when she was born--she was 7 pounds, 13 ounces and 18.5 inches long. She was super chubby and super short!

Within the days following birth, she dropped down to 6 pounds, 10 ounces. It is a lot of weight to be lost, but she was still a short little thing.

She remained on the small end of the scale until she was 13 or 14 months. She was never above the 15th percentile for weight or length.

Now, at 15 months, she is 20.0 pounds.

This is really interesting! E was 5lb 15oz at birth but has gained 2lb in her first three weeks. She is now up to 20th percentile and I reckon she's only going to keep soaring up that curve.

Opposite. DD was barely on the charts at birth, like 3rd% and is now like 90th% at one year. DS has stayed pretty average though. He was big for a twin but I think like 30th% at birth. I think his stats now are like 50/60th%.

She was a decent sized newborn at 8 lb 5 oz and 21 inches. She's stayed consistently tall but her weight gain has slowed a lot as she's gotten older.

C was 10lbs 8oz at birth and she stayed 100th percentile until she started walking. Now, she is starting to drop. She is still extremely tall, but she is thinning out a lot. She's 16 months.

The opposite: my dd was below 50th % (around 30-40th I think) for both weight and height but has been in the 60-70th for weight and 80th+ (96th at last appt) for height.

She was 8lb 13oz at birth, and she's stayed big. She was always in the 90th percentile for height and weight as a baby, and as a toddler she is getting taller and thinner at off the charts for height and 80th percentile for weight.

DD was 7 lbs 7 oz, and has stayed at 50% for height and weight at every appointment. I don't know how her birth weight ranks, but it seems pretty average.

@stargal: wow, so interesting that P was bigger baby! He is a little bean:)

My son was average 7.8lb and has remained exactly average. *Maybe* around 4-6m he briefly dipped into the 70th percentile if I remember correctly.

DD was 8lbs 0.7oz at birth and decreased down the weight curve until she stabilized at about 5%; be she grew an inch a month her first year so was off the chart in height. She takes after DH, tall and skinny.

DS was 9lb 6oz at birth. He's hung out around the 50% on the weight curve and is around 75% on the height curve. He takes after me, tallish but fluffy.

P was pretty big sized baby at birth 8 pounds.6 ounces. But he has consistently stayed on the lower end for weight gain. he's a string bean , which is funny bc we were expecting him to be huge bc of how much he weighed as a newborn!
