My LO is 15 months now but I posted basically this exact same thing around 6 months. We ended up offering food once a day and it took a few weeks but eventually he came around. He much preferred jarred baby food and pouch purees to the BLW and homemade purees we tried at first, so we just followed his lead and kept offering chunky foods as well. We also tried to eat at the same time as him whenever possible. Now he's a great eater! There is hope.

My girl wanted NOTHING to do with solids until she was maybe like 8-9 months and even then she could take them or leave them. Only now that she's over a year do I really feel she'd really miss them if I didn't give them to her. I persisted at 6 months, every day or every other day just offering her food with no expectations. It was kind of frustrating at times! When I got too frustrated I'd give it a day or two :)

LO loves it at 6.5. I do it with dh and feed him some too and she loves doing what we do. I would just follow your intuition. Keep offering and modeling behavior and make it exciting. That is all you can do.

I think all babies are supposed to be at least 6 months pluuus have the other signs of readiness... interest. can sit unassisted. can do pincer grasp....

whew! I thought my LO was the only one. he seems interested in mashed food, and will happily grab his spoon and gnaw on it. but he'll push most of the food out with his tongue. and he almost always seems stressed after a little while and sometimes there are tears. so maybe he's not so interested in food yet?

he's 6mo + 1wk now and we've been trying pretty consistently (once a day) to feed him for the past month or so. slow going

@Bookish: DS is 5 months old (tomorrow!), and I'm going to try and give him oatmeal and/or banana soon. He doesn't really show interest, and when I pretend to offer him my food, he shows zero interest as well. I'm excited to start solids (no idea why, but I am), but trying to suppress my excitement in case DS doesn't take to it as enthusiastically as I am. Ha!

@tlcbaby: right? She'll very happily chew on my fingers, the tv remote, my phone...anything! But food? Oh heck no! It's so weird!

@Bookish: That is how I feel. I know he doesn't need it for nutrition, but he puts everything in his mouth so I thought he would really be excited about something that actually tastes good.

LO isn't quite 6 months (5.5) but she is showing ZERO interest. She'll slobber all over a banana if we give it to her, but nothing actually gets eaten, and she has no interest in playing with the food... when we try purees, it just dribbles down her mouth.

I figure I'll just keep trying every couple of weeks in hopes that a switch flips! I mean, they don't *have* to have food yet, so I'm trying not to stress!

I don't really have much more experience than you, but LO is 6.5 months and we've been feeding solids for about 4 weeks. She is only really into it sometimes. I continue to send something to daycare and offer her something at dinner just to expose her to different foods. She's not protesting or upset - sometimes she just doesn't seem to want anything, or makes a face. If she was upset think I would stop for a week or so, so she doesn't have bad associations with eating.

My LO hates solids - he wipes his tongue off with his hand and makes horrible faces. I'm wondering the same thing!

We have tried banana chunks and spoon fed applesauce, but LO doesn't really seem interested. He'll give it a taste, but he just doesn't seem to get that it is food? I guess he is happy with breast milk for now, which is fine by me, but I don't know how long we should wait before we try again.

Anybody else wait a little longer on solids? How long would you go between "tries" if LO wasn't feeling it?
