@looch: Yes! My LO is becoming quite the helper. She especially loves to help (and un-fold) laundry! :P

Even though we do have the t.v. on most of the weekend, I am usually running around the house with LO. She rarely spends more than an hour tops actually watching t.v. Well, I take that back . . . sometimes she watches a little t.v. (usually Mickey Mouse Clubhouse) while she eats dinner . . . so about 1.5 hours tops. Maybe that's too much, but, I'm not gonna stress about it.

@babyjmama: have her unplug the tv altogether, or take the batteries out of the remote!

Another thing you can do is "chores." By 18 months, my son was helping with the laundry and really into scooping things, so, he'd scoop oatmeal or whatever for a good block of time.

My mom watches DS and it's kind of the same story. With the weather outside getting warmer, I think they'll spend more time outside. DS loves being outside. I also make suggestions like taking him to the park or running errands. There is only so much we can do! I know he is not just parked in front of the tv - its background noise.

@babyjmama: My MIL was terrible about doing as asked/instructed in a few really big ways . . . and after a while, I just pulled the plug on it (earlier than we agreed).

@mrsjyw: @looch: my mom is good about walks and stuff during nice weather but it's been so nasty here! :( he's getting old enough that he knows how to turn our tv on and I hate it. He watches enough w/her and DH (he relies too much on it) and I feel like I'm failing him at creativity bc of tv time :(

I have to have stuff for them to do, otherwise, my parents also rely on screentime.

So, I have stocked her up with play dough, puzzles, duplo blocks, cars and trucks he likes. When it is warm outside, they often "shovel" snow and rake the leaves, ride tricycles, color with chalk on the driveway.

My mom watches DS and I've had to tell her the same thing about the ipad. She's been good about it after the first couple times. She says her thing is that he whines for it and she hates saying no, but she's been getting at disciplining.

I need to get activities/crafts/etc. together now that DS is getting older. I can't wait for spring/summer, so they can spend time outdoors!

Do they listen to your requests? I often ask my mom to cut back on tv time, she always has cartoons on all day. She watches j 3 days/week and that's a LOT of tv time!! He's not always watching it but I've told her I don't want him having too much tv time yet every day he's watching. I don't know how else to say 'don't watch so much tv' when those are the exact words I've used.

Any suggestions? I'm getting frustrated. I've bought new art stuff so they have some fun projects but I can only do so much when I don't have him :crying:
