@kjpugs: I didn't read all the coments so this might have been said....we have a similar Graco PnP (ours is basic with no attachments except the toy bar and upper bassinet), the little matters pad lifts out for the sheets. I can't remember if it does on the top bassinet part or not, but on the bottom you can velcro it inplace which might be why you had trouble lifting it out? Also we got mattress pad/protectors to put under the sheets so that if baby would soil the sheets you just had to change the pad and sheets and not wipe down the entire mattress. They are BRU brand and came in a two pack. We also made our own PnP sheets which was a really simple project if you can sew even a little.

The thin "mattress" lifts out. The reason you probably couldn't lift it out at the store is that it gets velcroed down. If you didn't pull apart the velcro, it would feel like it was stuck down. The mattress is very hard and thin, so we bought a plush velvet-ey sheet that makes the mattress a little more comfortable for DD. We did start with the newborn napper attachment though.

We started our son in his crib but use the pnp for the living room. I had complications with my incision from c-section so we try to minimize me walking back from his room to the living room whenever he was sleeping. DS is now 5 months and we still use the pnp in the living room for his day time nap and his crib for night time sleep.

We use a fitted sheet for the graco mat and a thin waterproof sheet underneath the fitted sheet.

Good questions! We're hoping to get away with just a pack and play for the first few months too. I've seen on Amazon that they have sheets that fit them, and read that sheets for "mini cribs" often fit them.

That is the same one we have as well. I used a quilted pack n play sheet and then a regular pack n play sheet on top of that. Probably unnecessary, but I wanted it to be softer.

ETA: @Weagle - I just read your whole response. That's funny that you did the same thing with the same PNP.

I did not get one with the newborn napper as the Baby Bargains authors seemed to feel the nappers were lest safe/unnecessary. Don't know if there's any truth to the claim that they are unsafe, but we never needed it.

We have that exact PnP. We used the PnP sheets over a quilted PnP sheet. Made it a little more cozy, but not too soft.

We were wondering the same thing at Babies R Us today! I like the napper attachment (looks so cozy!) but I want to use the bassinet part for nighttime sleep, since it's a flatter surface (and thus safer). Still, the mattress seemed so thin! I might look into the mattress pad @Mrs. Yoyo mentioned.

Our LO did not like to sleep in the part you show.....he loved the newborn napper part of it though. It's not that much more expensive and is removable.
Once we transitioned to the main part I didn't use a sheet and the mattress got soiled :(

I bought a sheet but its too late.

@runsyellowlites: that's good to know! I meant laying blankets/sheets as if it was flat and attached in the store. Glad to know it lifts out!

Thanks so much for the advice ladies!!! Glad I'm not necessarily crazy and it's not used as shown (aka, stuck down!!!) in the store!

@kjpugs: you can buy a little mattress pad to put under the sheet to make the PNP comfier. I bought one to use when we go to my Mom's to make it a little more crib-like for LO.

They definitely make pnp/crib sheets to fit. The mattress piece for the bassinet is actually the same "floor" piece you'll use for the pnp when baby outgrows the bassinet.

We actually used some larger quilts & just wrapped the "mattress" like it was a present. With both G & P I've never had issues with bunching or it coming up.

There are two pieces - the hangy part and in there you place the mattress. So yes you can use a sheet and then place the sheeted mattress on the hangy thing.

After my research we've decided to try to use a pack n play for our baby to sleep in our room for 2-6 months most likely. (The nursery is across the house and our room has room for it.)

This is the one we decided on (pic below) the graco playard with bassinet.

My question? I'm assuming (please excuse not-yet-a-mom stupid questions haha) the baby sleeps on that top part, right? Well when I looked at it, it's thin and doesn't seem to have a way to attach a sheet. It was recommended I get sheets so when I checked it out I was confused. Would you let baby sleep on the top part there without a sheet? What do you do if the baby soils the PNP without a sheet??? I believe I have read to not have baby sleep on non tucked-in with elastic edges sheets or blankets etc, because they could bunch and potentially suffocate baby.

So moms... how did your newborn use a PNP?? (Only interested in specific experience with the Graco ones) Hope this is just a stupid question with an easy answer! :)
