DH gets insomnia several times a year. Usually work-stress related but other times, I'm not entirely sure why. I still think it could be related to PTSD from when he was deployed. He just rides it out though... watches tv in the living room and lets me sleep. Poor guy

Temazepam! That stuff is gold. Going through some jet lag related insomnia now though, but I'm nursing so I can't take it. Just riding it out & it sucks cause I'm just visiting for 3 weeks & have wasted almost a week on this stupid jet lag :(

I'm in a pretty bad cycle of not falling asleep til 2am, sleeping in til at least 9:30, then falling asleep again in the afternoon. It sucks :( I think I need to NOT bring my tablet into the bedroom at night, and just read before I go to sleep.

When it happens to him he either watches netflix in bed or listens to podcasts in bed. When it has happened to me I've generally just gotten up for the day-- but usually it strikes me around 4am or later. Neither of us have ever medicated it.

DH and I have insomnia related to stress, which is from work, so whenever one of us can't sleep we just go to work. So, sometimes we're at work at 4 am! Those are the best hours to get stuff done - no one around to bug you.

Sometimes I find that my insomnia is due to getting too much sleep, too. I'll make sure I'm good and tired before going to bed, instead of just going to bed at 9 or 10 like usual. That usually resets my sleep and allows me to sleep better.

I ride it out too. It doesn't happen often enough for me to medicate. It's very frustrating though!

I've dealt with chronic insomnia since I hit puberty. I usually just go with it. Mine is so frequent that I don't want to get dependent on a supplement or medication to sleep.

It helps to not drink caffeine. I had no idea how much drinking pretty much any caffeine more than tea affected my sleep until I stopped.

I medicate. It's the only thing that works and I can't survive on little sleep. My insomnia is usually related to stress/anxiety so I take Xanax, but benedryl works too.

I've been dealing with some insomnia the last couple weeks. I've been taking a combination of valerian root and melatonin, both over the counter herbal medications. It seems to help a bit.

what do you do to combat it?

Dh goes through phases (weeks) where he has insomnia. Wakes up at 3am ish in the morning every single night and can't sleep till 6am...when the alarm goes off 20 minutes later!

I suggested he should take some benadryl at night. He usually just rides it out.
