@Cole: Great idea - we have a play kitchen that is too big to hide anywhere to rotate, but rotating the food in it will work really well!

We keep musical instruments out because I play music weekly with some friends and family, and it is fun for us to have access to the percussion to add to our songs. Also there are matchbox cars everywhere, they seem to rotate themselves, one will end up under the couch for a while or something and then when it turns up it is a favorite for a while.

I usually try to make sure certain categories are always represented but still rotate most things. So there is always play food but which food or dishes changes, ditto with books, cars, dress ups.

Books are always out, though I try to switch out what books are out. And this stupid monkey that you throw/fling and it screeches when it lands. He loves that thing. And the drum sticks from his PaRumPum drum, cuz he likes to beat everything in sight. Otherwise, everything else gets switched out, but really only every other month or so. And I try to only allow 1 electronic noisemaker at a time, because they make me stabby, but my ILs insist on buying them for him. One of the joys of moving? Purging. And guess what's top of the list for the purge?

Play kitchen items and books are always out. Puzzles, blocks and legos are in the closet and come out a few times a week. Then we have a huge tote with toys that stay packed away for a good month or two, or three. I think it's time to rotate again.

books, stuffed animals & and play kitchen stuff is always out. And there are a few random toys that aren't part of the rotation. Oh and his little FP rocking giraffe is always out too.

Books are always out plus a couple of her favorite stuffed animals and her VTech walker so we can switch the music on in the mornings when we need to get stuff done in the kitchen without her doing screech owl impressions at the baby gate. Everything else rotates.

Are there toys that you never rotate out?

Play food is constant here...felt, wood and plastic!
