There has only been one thing my DH hasn't been to & that was a blood draw for my repeat Harmony test. He has come to every other appt though. He sat there (at my head) for the pap at the first appt & even sat with me for my 3hr GD test. They always make sure to ask if either of us have any questions about things.

My DH was always allowed (he's not been to many appts with #2). He was placed behind a curtain a few times (pap smear at my first appt., Group B strep test, and I think when they did the cervical check near the end). But they have a curtain that pulls around the "guest" chair so he didn't have to leave the room even.

There was one or two appts that he couldn't attend and that's when my OB asked more questions about our relationship, how he's coping with my pregnancy and expectations post-partum.

Yes! The only exception was at the very beginning, where they sent him to the room and took me to the nurse's station to do BP/weight and asked me if there was anything I needed to talk about.

@Courderoy: makes sense!

Yes DH is definitely allowed. Even when they were doing the physical exams on me, legs in stirrups and all, DH was in the room. The midwife kindly asked him if he would like to go to the other side of the room, that way it's a lot less awkward for him (which he did) but the midwife wouldn't have cared either way at all!

He usually doesn't come in while they check weight/blood pressure and what not but always comes in for ultrasound and seeing the doctor. Sometimes they reverse the order and he is with me for everything.

My DH was always allowed in but next time I'm not having him come to anything except the first ultrasound and the anatomy scan. It's just too much time away and the scans the office are so grainy you can't see anything. I can handle it on my own!

@NeekieRose: I went to about 4 different labs so I don't know if it was th case for all of them but the first one I went to for my dating ultrasound around 10 weeks had a sign posted that ultrasounds are a medical procedure, not for entertainment and that your partner/family/whoever will be invited in towards the end. It did appear that a lot of people had brought multiple people, so maybe it was too cramped/distracting??

For sure- I never saw the doctor alone. DH was there for everything. I am pretty assertive now with medical care so if anyone ever tried to stop or change that and I wanted him there (though this has never been an issue) I would insist on it.

Yes DH was allowed to come in to all appointments, this is in the UK. I would have been really upset if he hadn't been allowed in to the ultrasounds. He did choose to leave the room any time I was getting blood drawn though!

Absolutely. But I also go to a Catholic practice and they allow children and pretty much any family you want to go in whatever room you welcome them to. DH has even come to non-pregnancy related appointments.

I'm in Canada so ultrasounds are usually done in the hospital in my area. If you go in for an early ultrasound no one is allowed to come in with you until the tech finishes doing all the measurements they need. My SO was allowed in at my anatomy scan with no problem.

He was always allowed in--every check up and ultrasound. But I have heard of some practices having the "no visitors" rule--super dumb if the patient/mother is consenting.

I wonder if it has anything to do with HIPPA?

I wasn't pregnant in the US and can I tell you honestly that I don't really remember, now almost 4 years later, if my husband came in with me? I know he was there when I had to do the fetal heartbeat monitoring, but I honestly can not tell you if he was in the room with me when I had my ultrasounds! My memory, oh my gosh.

The only time he wasn't allowed in was when I had NSTs, and that was bc the room is shared with a bunch of women getting NSTs at the same time, it'd be awkward to have other people's partners there while my belly is exposed! But both at my drs office and at the hospital, dh was otherwise welcomed.

Partners are welcome to come to all appointments, and they actually encourage them to come to the first appointment, ultrasounds, and another more informative appointment in the third trimester (have had it yet).
I would be upset if he wasn't allowed, and even more so if he was excluded from an ultrasound.

Always and I'd be really annoyed if he wasn't. They just started a new policy that no one but the patient can be in the weight and blood pressure station (makes sense, it's a small area), but he can meet me in the exam room to wait for the midwife. I'd be really pissed about the ultrasound.

I've been to 2 OB offices and we was allowed in both exam rooms for any and all procedures. The first office just brought mom back for weight and BP checks, though I think it was mostly due to space issues as the MA's station was literally a cubby in the wall. The one I go to now (I switched at 20 weeks) let's partners in for the whole thing, which sucks during the weigh ins lol

@Corduroy: my OB practice has the same policy, although I can't remember ever actually being asked the question(s). The nurse(s) who took my vitals would wait for me to collect my husband from the waiting room before taking me back to the actual exam room. My husband came to all of my appointments except for the GD test.
