I can't know for sure because I don't pump, but usually when I get sick I think my supply drops, but then baby nurses more often or has some night wakings to nurse and within a day or two of feeling better it seems to recover.

I had mastitis last week and noticed that my son didn't want to nurse on that side... and that side quickly started to look a LOT smaller than the other side... I also was pumping a lot less on that side. I feel like my supply is just now coming back.

I knew from pumping output and from not feeling a letdown. My supply is finally starting to recover (I've been sick for two weeks now).

@autumnlove: @danda: Yeah, she has seemed a little fussier while nursing-- not majorly so, but enough that I noticed. And she's been waking up a little more at night, but like I said, that could be a million things. She seems to have caught my stuffy/runny nose, so that could also be causing the crankiness, of course.

Guess i'd better go eat more :) I'm not too concerned about it in the long run but will be conscious to up my calories and water for a few days.

I just made enough for the day. I would also compare it to other days that I pumped. If it seemed less, I upped my water, drank tea for milk, and added in extra sessions if needed. Luckily, I didn't have to, but I was worried for a few days.

Pumping output bc I wasn't eating and drinking enough. After eating and drinking post-sickness, my supply came back.

Pumping output and my baby would pop off and look irritated during nursing. My supply always rebounded!

The only way I knew was from pumping output. I only ever saw a real drop when I had a stomach thing and didn't eat for like 24 hours. It took me about a week to rebound from that. I didn't see a significant change when I had never-ending colds this past fall.

I did have a supply drop for a day or tie after being sick and barely eating or drinking anything for a couple of days. I was able to tell by pumping output, but also my daughter was acting very fussy at the breast and she was happier after I gave her a bottle of pumped milk (usually bottles are reserved for daycare but I made an exception due to my supply drop). I wouldn't have known conclusively if it hadn't been for the pumping decrease.

How did you know? Just from pumpin output? I have had a cold for several days, nothing serious, just feeling crummy. I don't usually pump so I can't go by that, but C has been very quick with nursing, which assumed was just normal getting older and more efficient, but the last couple of sessions I felt like maybe she wanted more but it wasn't there? Or, I'm being paranoid. Her sleep has also been crap, but of course it could be any number of things causing that- including hunger.

Going to really increase the water and have more oatmeal just in case, but how do you know when your supply dips?
