No. We travel frequently enough that I don't want to pay for classes that we miss. We are involved with a play group that meets weekly, so he gets exposure to other kids and activities then. We also do a lot of museums, the zoo and other kid activities during the weekend, so I don't think additional classes are necessary.

No. Usually C has to be with us while we run errands on Saturday and then spends the morning at church on Sunday so that pretty much shoots our weekend because on one of those days we are cleaning and he tends to take long afternoon naps.

@looch: We do stuff like that too. Though I haven't ventured to the Children's museum yet. Maybe we should give that a try.

@mrsmate: We really don't have family nearby either. At least none that make an effort to spend time with us. I should look into an open swim.

@brownie: Getting him to sleep hasn't really been an issue but I know what you mean about the energy!

@mediagirl: I get that. And part of me feels like I should just keep it family time for now. But then I think back to how shy I was as a child (and even now as an adult) and I don't want my son to be that way. So maybe exposing him to more would help?

@mediagirl: Exactly!! I want to spend every minute of the weekend with her.
We go to church on the weekend and she interacts with other children there too

Not really, we go to the museum, but I prefer not to do stuff that has set times and I hate the feeling of dread I get when I paid for 10 sessions and we can only go to 5.

We also have a pool, but he hates it and won't go in, so we sit by the pool and splash Dad.

@brownie: hahaha, I have the same selfish reasons. LO is VERY high energy. He would be ripping the house apart if we didn't get him out for activities.

@mrsmate: We have no family nearby, so not really an issue for us.

@KT326: By family time, I meant extended family time (DH's family all live about an hour away). If we didn't live near any family, I'd definitely consider doing something on the weekends. Instead of swimming class, can you do open swim so that you can all go?

Yes, we sign him up for stuff. The reason is that right now, they are all mommy and me so they are pretty good time together. The second reason is that if he doesn't do something active we can't get him to sleep.

So he does swim lessons and has been doing soccer on sundays. Now he will be doing my new totfit class.

No way.

She goes to daycare 5 days a week, 10 hours a day. On the weekends, I want it to be family fun time. There is no need for her to be exposed to anything else. If we do something else, it's with a meetup group I'm a part of and that usually includes Dad.

@littlek: I would love to do swim lessons but they are so hard to find on the weekends in our area. Plus the last time we tried to take him swimming it was a disaster. He cried when I was in the water and I wasn't even holding him!

@mrsmate: That is one thing I am conflicted about. I would like to do something social with him on the weekends, but then its the only time we really get to spend with him. Weekdays everything feels so rushed.

Do you still sign them up for classes on the weekend? Like tumbling or music? DS is in daycare full time. He is 17 months old and I've been wondering if I should sign him up for something outside of daycare so he gets exposed to different types of situations and kids.

So what do you do? Any recommendations for classes? We have a Gymboree nearby, any experiences with them?
