@Ra: N is my night owl. He would be content be up past 11 most nights and to sleep until 10 or later. However E goes down at around 10pm and its up at 7-7:30am. I would like them both just to pick the same schedule.

Yeah, my 3 year old has really matured into her father's sleep needs - up late and wants to sleep in. It really works for our family, because her father is the same and enjoys spending time with her after work, and we also really value the ability to be out in the evenings. I hope my second child is similar.

If he is starting school in the fall, then I would for sure start to move his schedule. I would wake him up earlier, and then move nap so he gets an earlier bedtime. Even limit the nap. 4 hours, I can not even imagine. We are thrilled with 2 hours!

@Ra: I would definitely start changing his schedule a month or so in advance so he's not totally miserable the first month of school!

Mine (2.5) is a night owl, but also seems to have lower sleep needs than your LO. We went on a trip and she was so overtired from it we used that as a reset to adjust her schedule a bit when we got back and we now have her in bed at 8 and asleep by 9 most nights. We keep her nap, but when we moved her bedtime earlier she started wanting her naps a little earlier as well.

@Mamaof2: He does! He naps around 3pm. His naps last anywhere from 90 mins to 4 hours. He just has high sleep needs. He still needs his nap so I don't want to drop anytime soon. However, if he misses a nap because we are out on a trip or only gets a quick car/stroller nap he can still stay up pretty late without any meltdowns or anything.

@Ra: no night owls here but wondering if your DS is napping late in the day? I cant imagine staying up till 11pm!! If you dropped or shortened his nap I bet he would go to bed much earlier!

@hilsy85: Good point. He starts pre-school in the fall (2 mornings a week) and I'm DREADING waking him up in the morning. He does not take kindly to those who interrupt his beauty sleep. :silly:

At some point I imagine his schedule will have to change though? not sure what your timeline is for #2 but when your first LO starts school, around 4 or 5, it will likely be in the morning, so he will have to adjust, so by default you will at least have more typical hours!

No other advice as i'm thrilled if my LO sleeps past 6:30am :silly:

...did they stay that way?

My toddler (he will be two next week) has the sleep habits of a teenager. He doesn't go to bed until 10-11 (sometimes later!) and sleeps until 9-11am. We aren't morning people so for now his schedule doesn't bother us at all. However, we are in talks about having another baby and it will be *brutal* if the second isn't a night owl and we have one going to bed at 11pm and another waking up super early.

I know toddler sleep can be all over the place but B's schedule has been like this for about a year now.
