@catomd00: Never tried one with her! I'm sort of a lazy "cook" for her. I want her to eat healthy but I don't like cooking so I just give her simple whole foods mostly. Meals are generally meat/egg + a sautéed veg + fresh fruit. I should try smoothies. I just hate washing the stupid blender. :)

Will she do smoothies? I make Popsicles with plain yogurt and chunks of fruit - bananas, strawberries and blueberries are a hit. They aren't less messy than yogurt but they're fun!

@Mae: We don't make a huge conscious effort, but she does like cheese and yogurt a lot. She has at least one source of dairy daily. However, both Mr. O and I have dairy issues, so we're not adamant about getting it into her.
Lots of other foods have calcium, Vit D, etc., so we're okay with that.

@Mae: yes, both my boys eat a ton! I used to worry about it with my first, but the ped said if he doesn't throw up then he isn't eating too much. they are both big sturdy kids, but still a healthy weight. Now I worry that I won't be able to afford them as teenagers!

Soooo O does not like milk (still). She does nurse 1x a day, but I am almost certain it is mostly comfort nursing. I do continue to offer it to her for every meal and she maybe drinks 1 oz a day? Anyways, I don't really make a huge concentrated effort to make sure she's eating other sources of dairy. I do offer her yogurt, cheese, etc. Sometimes she eats it, sometimes she doesn't. I just make sure she gets a wide variety of foods and hope that is good enough. I can't force her to eat or drink, but I will continue to offer. I was thinking of perhaps offering almond milk, it is a bit sweeter and that way she could get some calcium, but was attempting to stick with whole milk for my little peanut to gain some extra lbs. If she continues to not like milk, I will try other types of milk and see if it helps!

She eats yogurt and cheese nearly daily. But if my second also doesn't like milk then I doubt I'll even make a huge effort for daily dairy. It's fine but it's not necessary and as long as they're on a multi vitamin it's really not a huge issue.

My second did not take to WCM. He now gets a smoothie for breakfast. Greek yogurt, milk, spinach, banana and a frozen fruit that varies. He is 15 months old and takes down a full 18 ounces, so I feel pretty good that I checked the calcium box. He does also get some cheese later in the day.

@Mae: thanks for asking this, because my earlier post on this got zero replies. Ha. You worded it much better. Anyway, kind of in the same boat but my LO doesn't like yogurt or cheese. He DOES like those Chobani pouches, though. I like them bc they seem to have less sugar than the other brands. (plus more protein since it's Greek yogurt). I have friends that don't give their kids milk at all, but they do get dairy from lots of cheese and yogurt.....
Wish my kid would love either of those. I'm now considering supplementing but I think I might try soy milk first.

For a long while after giving up formula, LO refused milk (until she was positively peer-pressured into becoming a milk addict at school!) and our pediatrician said he wasn’t concerned because LO eats dairy every day.

Have you tried yogurt "smoothies"? We just throw yogurt and a bit of milk into the blender to thin up the yogurt so i's drinkable and LO thinks they are great.

LO also loves cheese, and cheese sticks are an easy snack. They also have cheese sticks that are fortified with extra calcium.

@Mae: It really started to taper off after we switched from bottles to sippy cups. I think she liked the bottles more for the sucking than anything else (as a paci addict) and cups were never as appealing. Then we dropped to a cup of milk in the am and after nap (I think just cause that's what daycare did), and she probably drinks like 1-2oz of milk each time. Our ped said like 24 oz/milk a day which is LOLworthy. We sometimes give her yogurt in the morning, and she sometimes eats cheese with lunch or dinner, but honestly.. *I* don't eat dairy so I'm not so worried about her. She gets her nutrients from other places.

My LO does drink milk, but not a ton. However we do yogurt almost everyday for breakfast and she has cheese nearly every day, so I really don't worry about it at all. Some days she will drink a lot (for her, like maybe 8 oz) and some days just a few sips.

At her 2 year appt the ped said the milk really isn't important right now as long as she is eating well and a variety of things.
