@BabyTsMom: actually, in the beginning he was in the afternoon since they didn't have any morning spots available. It was a huge pain, but within 6 months we got a full day spot.

Both of mine had fairly rough adjustments. DS started right at 2. He seemed totally fine and in the routine at home, but would freak out when it was time to go to daycare. It took 3 weeks before he stopped crying every day. DD started at 13 months. It was the same as with DS, she cried every day for a month but was mostly just fine the rest of the time.

LO1 started full time preschool at 26 months after staying home with a nanny and 1 other child from 8 months until then. It's hard to break out what was related to starting preschool and what was related to the arrival of LO2 (we did not intend for these to coincide, but our nanny quit unexpectedly, so we were scrambling.)

She was very clingy and sensitive, developed a HUGE mommy preference and was prone to a lot of tantrums. She would tell you that she liked school when asked, and she liked her teachers, but she did not start participating in class and really playing with the other kids until about 4 months in. We're also starting to see the light with not as many tantrums and the mommy preference/clinginess is starting to ease up.

how were they at home during the transition time? Did their appetite decrease, did they get clingier, did they start waking up motn, etc....?
LO (newly turned 2) will be starting a 3.5-hour morning preschool (5 days) soon, and I am wondering what to expect when I pick him up! I already know the drop offs will be very difficult and it might take a while.....
