I'm a pretty crappy housewife...which is why we have someone come in every other week. But generally I can get sweeping, swiffering, laundry, emptying/loading the dishwasher and meal prep done while LO is sleeping or awake. I never vacuum.

I LOVE taking my little guy to run errands. He makes a lot of friends when we're out and about.

I think I do okay. We have a cleaning lady every other week (she's coming today-woohoo) for the deep clean stuff. I make dinner and do laundry/dishes/general tidying every day, because I can't stand clutter. It could certainly be cleaner, but I'm okay with it. You can only do so much! :)

i'm a horrible housewife. with a one a year old and three year old it's impossible to get any productive cleaning done. so i have to wait until they go down at night but most nights i'm too pooped to wash dishes and fold laundry. but i do try. guess that's the best we can do....we're not superwoman. haha.

I'm pretty good at keeping up with the daily stuff.... Laundry, picking up stuff, wiping the counters, dishes, running errands, etc. Now that lo is 18 months old she can help with things too. She loves to help put clothes away. But I have a cleaning lady for deep cleaning. My grandma gifted me someone when lo was born and my mom kept her when my grandma passed away. Best gift ever!

However I don't feel like it's my job to keep up with all of the housework, and dh agrees with this. He knows lo is a full time job so if I can't get something done hell help me when he gets home.

@TEQUIERO21 I have twins (2 1/2) and a 3 month old and I do all the shopping and errands with them though I am limited to stores that have double carts. When it was just the twins I often just used their stroller and put stuff in the basket. I have a city select double and love it though now that the boys are bigger it's not as roomy for them. They also try to climb out now so I am that lady with the crazy kids in the store. Having twins you quickly get over the worries of embarrassment because I found my sanity was more important and to keep sane I needed to get out of the house even if it meant the occasional stare or comments of "ohh you've got your hands full".

As to the housework being home all day with two 2 year olds who now refuse to nap and an infant it is hard to get much done. I was feeling overwhelmed so I actually googled some cleaning schedules to try to find one that works. I actually found some I liked and have sorted started to stick to one. I unload the dishwasher each morning, make the bed and do one load of laundry. Then each day/evening I do one room and general pick up and wipe down. My house is by no means neat but I think breaking it down into more manageable tasks has made me feel more successful. Just emptying the dish washer while I make coffee starts my day off better.

I'm a SAHM but a really bad housewife. Luckily, we have a cleaning lady come three days a week. I hate housework. Plus LO is thirteen months old and is like the energizer bunny, she never stops. I wouldn't be able to get anything done on my own.

I'm really into cleaning my kitchen and bathrooms. Laundry is something I procrastinate and I don't vacuum ad much as I should. I also am not very motivated in general during the day but when my son and dh are home I do more.

Except these days I'm 8 months pregnant and motivation is dwindling. We're gonna have to live the next month or so in mediocrity lol

@Mrs. Pen: i was a nanny for twins & bff has twins with one that's two years older, the push/pull of stroller + cart sucks, but it works! we didn't have any great baby carrier, so once they were too heavy for the bjorn, it was the only way to have an open cart to put the shopping in.

No. I am a horrible housewife but luckily my husband doesn't care. He knows that I try though and he is very understanding. I think a large part of it is that he just doesn't notice things. And I am a horrible cook which is an ongoing joke in my family so he knew what he was getting into when he married me. We hired a housekeeper a couple months ago and I could kiss her ever time she leaves. I tell him that he married me for my awesome sense of humor and not my housewife skills.

@Mrs.B: with 3 kids I can't imagine it's easy to get anything done! And we have a cleaning lady come once a month, just to really scrub the bathrooms, moldings, etc. It's really nice, and once a month feels less wasteful than every week (which is what I really want but can't justify it as a SAHM). Maybe he would agree to that schedule?

And to actually reply to the post.... :)

I've never been a great housewife, even when I worked minimal hours from home. I'm pretty good at mass organization and systems, but cleaning isn't my place to shine. I like to bake, DH is better at cooking. Both before and after, the household has always been a joint venture.

But I always feel amazing when the kids nap well and I can get all the evening chores mostly done so we can relax when hubby gets home! Such a treat :) Of course, this would probably happen more often if I wasn't on HB so much, lol.

I try but I definitely feel overwhelmed most of the time! I fold laundry whil DS is awake and I usually do general pick up (make bed, start laundry, etc) while DS is napping. Luckily DH gets home at around 4pm and takes over baby duty while I make dinner. I bathe DS and do most of his bedtime routine but then DH will take him to give him his bottle and put him down. While he's doing that I clean up the kitchen and DS' toys.

For other things like mopping floors, vacuuming, cleaning bathrooms, dusting etc I do them each on a certain day each week (bathrooms more often) so that it doesn't get overwhelming and I don't have to do it all on one day.

I think I'm a good housewife for the most part (not to toot my own horn), but I was a nanny for SO many years I think I have adapted to watching kids and doing a billion things at once. Our apartment gets messy at times, but for the most part it's pretty clean and kept up. I try and make dinner so it is ready when DH gets home, but honestly I HATE cooking. I never go all out, but 5 out of 7 days we have a decent meal. DH helps when he can (or rather, when I ask him) but I pull most of the weight since I am a SAHM.

I try my best with the house things. Every day I try to have at least one big thing done (do the laundry, clean the kitchen, tend to the floors) as well as to prep dinner so DH has minimal work to have it ready while I nurse before bed. DD takes four naps a day of 20-40 minutes so sometimes is difficult!

Lately, I clean like it's my job but mostly because we are selling the house. Usually I just vacuum and steam mop twice a week and clean the bathrooms every other day...then each day I do one task on top of that.

I am terrible at cooking though, I'm not that creative since DH likes really fatty foods :-/ so that's where I fall short on being a good housewife.

Not yet, but I plan to be. I completely believe that if he lets me quit my job 100% than I can cook clean and take care of baby. As of right now he cooks and cleans and works! Since we are still getting used to LO and she is EBF he would rather have me take her if she isn't 100% happy. I love him so much for it. As of right now I help when I can, which is not nearly enough. In the next month I plan to take over.

We just implemented a chore chart of sorts to keep track of housework since I will be going back to work in mid-March. We divided the major cleaning tasks into 7 sections and assigned one to each day. Wednesdays I clean the nursery and the upstairs bathroom for instance. There are also everyday chores like sweeping the kitchen floor, wiping down counters etc. I find that having a schedule makes sure everything gets done at least once a week, doesn't let any particular mess get overwhelming because it's done every week and focuses me on getting everything done. It also works great because right now the chart is taped to our microwave and I scratch things off as I do them, so when DH comes home he knows what has been done, and what WE need to finish before bed that night. Some days I get it all done on my own, some days I need lots of help from him when he gets home. No more bickering about cleaning though, which is amazing!

@tequiero21: I go shopping with my twins most days! Costco has double wide carts, which are sooo awesome. So I can stock up there when I need to. Otherwise, I put one in the ergo and one in the top of the cart, or I just take the double stroller and carry a basket for the groceries. I use the strategy of going out more frequently and getting smaller batches of stuff each time. I met another twin mom who pushes a double stroller in front of her and drags a shopping cart behind her for major grocery shopping! I don't think I have the coordination for that :) It was really awesome when they were still comfy in the double snap n go....I could load the basket underneath and the handle of the Target baskets will hang perfectly on the stroller handlebar.
