@hergreenapples: I've heard that it varies by oven and electric is usually hottest on bottom and gas is usually hottest on top. But I read this on the Internet, so can't say I trust it 100%!

@mrbee: I've had both gas and electric and the element wax always on the bottom. The broiler is on the top. Sounds like yours is different?

@hergreenapples: Ah do you have an electric stove? I've read that those are usually hottest on the bottom...

The bottom of the oven is usually the hottest, as that's where the element is :) The top is only the hottest if you're using the broiler. Thus, I would cook the meat on the bottom, veggies on the top, and potentially switch them part way through.

@Arden: Awwww! I actually think it's a great suggestion, i.e., broiling the veggies off at the end if they are not done. I am sure this will come in handy!

I would cook the meat on top if you do normally. It's more important that the meat cooks properly.
It's easier to fix the veggies later (I sometimes broil veggies at the end if they need a little extra on the outside but are already cooked through).

Edit: Hmm, no one agrees with me. lol
Maybe you should listen to them - I don't cook meat! I'm just thinking that if the veggies are undercooked it's easy to fix them, but meat needs to be cooked right!

...and you can't fit both dishes on the top rack, which one would you put on the top rack and which one on the bottom rack? The meat on the top, since it's hotter there? Or the veggies, since that has to cook for longer anyway.

This is a time-sensitive question ha.
