My new primary can be a one stop shop, but I like my OB so might still see her for paps. They are in the same building so it isn’t a big deal.

I see a PCP and an OBGYN and I prefer it that way. I’m in good health but I prefer having an internist do my general physicals and standard blood test panel since 1) they conduct them more often than an OBGYN, 2) their training is more focused on that, 3) if my general health took a nosedive for whatever reason, I like that my internist has been monitoring me and knows my history. Same thing the other way around, I don’t want an internist doing my GYN checkup for the same reasons. If my OBGYN did a general physical on me and found something abnormal, they’d probably be referring me to an internist anyway, so why not go to the internist to begin with? Plus if the OBGYN were to find something really specific, such as a nephrology issue, I doubt they’d have as good a network of nephrologists they can refer you to, and I think in general, the internist is better trained to provide you guidance on how to manage your overall care.

So basically I see both *just in case* something bad were to happen, I'd feel more prepared having the right doctor manage my care.

I haven't had a primary care doc since I was a kid. I see my OB/GYN for my yearly pelvic exam

I like having an actual gynecologist so I have both. I generally like having specialists.

Before having kids, I used to only see an internist who did annual paps, prescribed birth control, etc. Once I’m done with this pregnancy, I’ll go back to her exclusively. She also monitors my cholesterol, breast health, etc. so I prefer a one stop shop like others have described.

Both. I saw an OB/GYN long before having kids like since I was 14 or 15 years old. I have to see my OB in order to get my birth control every year. It's also a good health practice too. I still occasionally see my PCP for a physical. At our office, we have a premium reducing program where you go in for a blood test to check cholesterol, etc. I did that this year instead of my physical.

Our family doc offers well-woman care, so I will likely see her from this point on. My midwives are awesome, but only accept 1 insurance company.

Do you still see an OBGYN for all of your lady stuff (I'm so grown up :) ) or do you just see your primary doctor for your annual physical? I need new doctors anyways so I'm trying to figure out if I can just find an internal medicine doc that will also do my annual pelvic exam or if I should also look for a gynecologist too.
