It's not like a wedding, where you would still send a gift even if you couldn't attend. I think since it's not your BFF's kid, skipping a present is totally ok. I think with kids and gifts, if you wouldn't normally purchase one for them even if they didn't have a party, and they're not family, you're not obligated to bring them a present unless you attend the party. If so, then yes, you should get them a gift. They were friend's way back when, not good friends but they stayed in touch through facebook, and since they moved back into the area and we both have kids we all started hanging out. Am I supposed to get him a gift to give to him the next time I see him, or is it ok to skip it? </p>
