I like some plain chicken if my stomach isn't back to 100% yet after a bug (you could cook it in the broth). I don't remember but do you have quark in the UK? That's also a go to of mine.

I would go for storebought chicken broth since it tends to be lighter with some sea salt. If you can find a brown rice green tea, it will give you the taste of toasted grains without actually eating the grains and you might find that soothing. Coconut water is hydrating and gentle and pretty low in sugar. And if you can eat a baked sweet potato, that might help too. If you can have a banana, I'd try to slather some peanut butter on it. Indian pappadum crisps are made with chickpea flour or if you can find some chickpea flour you can make soccas (chickpea flour flatbreads essentially) for a higher protein option. A lentil soup might be good too.

@Cherrybee: I have heard that the general rule of thumb with illness and GD is to feed yourself what you need before worrying about your sugars! I know you're pretty amazing with your diet so I don't think having some toast over a few days is going to have any negative effects on either yourself or baby. Feel better soon!

I eat predominantly paleo in order to keep my weight down. Can you have starchy vegetables like sweet potatoes? Parsnips are also a great potato-like vegetable that I find really satisfying.

Or maybe make your own non-carb bread substitute, like http://lexiscleankitchen.com/2014/08/24/the-ultimate-paleo-sandwich-rolls/

Also maybe whole or higher fat milk? I find milk really soothing on an upset stomach.

@Cherrybee: My husband is diabetic and this is what he eats when he is getting over a stomach bug (or any illness, really):
- crackers (maybe spend a bit more and get some whole wheat ones?)
- 7UP/Gatorade
- Plain chicken broth

@Cherrybee: I was able to have a little bit of carb - just nothing "white" like white bread, white rice, etc. Can you talk to your dr? I think they'd be okay with you just ingesting a tiny bit of carbs to stay alive! My #s were never perfect and my dr was perfectly ok with it.

@Cherrybee: I know you can't typically have bananas, but what about these 2 ingredient pancakes just till you feel better? http://www.hellobee.com/2013/04/01/two-ingredient-pancakes/

@catomd00: I can eat half a small banana as long as its combined with protein. I could imagine myself eating a banana.... But not eggs, oh god not eggs!

I am on a strict low carb diet to control my GD. No bread, no rice, no pasta, no fruit, no breakfast cereal, no bran, nothing with added sugar - I basically live off meat, cheese and vegetables.

I'm recovering from a tummy bug. I still feel a little queasy and my stomach is very tender, sore even.

Yesterday, I couldn't face food. I ate a piece of toast yesterday afternoon, which I totally shouldn't have (sent my blood sugar through the roof). But I couldn't face anything else and I needed to eat (I'm 25 weeks pregnant). Today, I feel really hungry so I tried some chicken soup - but I cant stomach it. Its too rich and creamy.

What on earth can I eat?
