We just pretend it is Christmas day, I make a big breakfast, we open all our gifts, and spend the whole day watching Christmas movies together. Then that evening we pack up and head out to my family's house for Christmas. I just feel weird exchanging our gifts in front of my family, and I think I'd also miss not having that time just between us. But I don't know what we'll do next year when we have a LO. When I was an expat kid, we used to come back to the States for Christmas and Santa always came to our house while we were gone. It's pretty common in our family to open up a picture of the intended item.
