I did it for an injury & for anxiety. My insurance covered it. I had my first treatment, then went back two weeks later. I felt awful at the second treatment.
Turns out, a week after the first treatment I had gotten pregnant.
After a year of no periods and being told I probably couldnt have kids.
So I didn't go there for fertility treatments but I believe in it 100%

I've done acupuncture for a ski injury and it really helped. Also, I recommended it to a friend who couldn't get her period back after having her first child. She got her period back right after her first treatment (and got pregnant shortly after). My dad had acupuncture for bad arthritis and it really helped him. Good luck!

@Ash: I totally do. I dropped back to monthly for a while, but after 20 weeks I'm back to fortnightly, just to make sure I stay relatively pain free. Not sure what I am going to do at the end of Jan when my Chiro goes on maternity leave herself! This bun better come a couple of weeks early LOL

I did acupuncture for hip and pelvic pain and up to $500 in a year was covered by my insurance--I paid up front and then submitted for a reimbursement. My plan also covers chiro appointments--definitely look into your insurance coverage!

I've done acupuncture for anxiety/stress, at a community-style center like @Mrs. Bird is talking about. It's mostly painless, unless there's a lot of needling in your earlobes. The acupuncturist who seemed to do the best job with me at the center left to start her own fertility-focused practice. If we have trouble, I will probably go see her.

Are there any community acupuncture clinics in your area? We have one in our neighborhood and it's $15-$35 a session, sliding scale.

I have gone on & off for a while. It definitely helped with my cycles, but not enough to get me to ovulate. I went to a community style center for a few months where everyone has a recliner & you stay clothed, that was relaxing but not effective enough for me, I justified it by saying I couldn't afford to keep it up long term if it was more $$, but I switched to someone who specialized in fertility & was priced accordingly. Ouch! I was going weekly for treatments & taking herbs, it was >$100/ week between the two & I hated going. I would often lay on the table & once I was alone, I'd just cry, some days I didn't, but many I did. She was using bigger & bigger needles & they often hurt & left bruises or bled after, the little ones didn't usually bother me, but the thicker they got, the more the hurt. Then I did electro, where you have a battery machine hooked up to the needles, it wasn't painful exactly, just uncomfortable & weird. Then I did the one where they burn the needles, I was really anxious about that, but I loved it! It warned my core & felt great!

I believe it can be very effective & it is relaxing for many people, it just wasn't enough for me & financially after 4 months of steady treatments with the acupuncture & herbs, I felt like I gave it a shot & it wasn't worth the expense for me. I did get a 15% (I think it was 15) discount with my BCBS plan. But the thought of going & spending the $$ each wk, the needles increasing discomfort, my fear of needles, it was making me more anxious rather than less.

I really liked going. It didn't help me get pregnant, but I did a month or so of sessions at a time I was feeling pretty glum about the whole TTC process. It helped me to relax and remember to be grateful. Maybe I could have gotten that out of a therapy session or two?

It was expensive. She was willing to do a sliding scale, but I felt badly paying her less. There are cheaper options in town.

I went to help me regulate some digestion issues I was having, plus to help me with weaning off a steroid inhaler. It was fantastic and I recommend it highly.

I also did sessions to help my body prepare for labor. Those were really intense and involved burning sticks

I've had great luck with acupuncture for stress, fertility, and other issues over the years. Sometimes I've only needed one treatment (to fix a thrown out back), and sometimes it's taken months (fertility) to see results. The acupuncturist will usually be able to give you a sense of how long you can expect to need treatments for your particular issue.

If you don't see results in a reasonable amount of time, try another practitioner! I've noticed that people sometimes write off acupuncture and other alternative treatments after just one session with a mediocre (or bad) pratitioner. You wouldn't do that with a doctor... not all acupuncturists are created equal either!

My mom is doing it for her knee and she said even after one session she can feel a huge improvement! I am so happy for her.

I think her insurance covers it- it's done by a chiropractor, so it's billed as such. I'm not sure of the cost but as far as I know she just has to pay the copay.

Good luck and let us know how it goes if you try it.

@MrsMcD: I'd had some back pain but was also concerned about incredibly long cycles and mentioned that in my first appointment. When I went in she almost immediately picked up (like from when I walked in the room) that I had a stage 2 sacro-iliac separation. That was causing a lot of inflammation in my pelvic region and once that was rectified, I was pregnant within a couple of months. She also picked from nerve responses that my adrenal system was on the point of collapse so also had me give up coffee at the same time. My cycles went from 70+ days to 35 by the time I got pregnant.

I went for fertility and overall was happy with the experience. I got pregnant after 1.5 months of treatment, but it unfortunately ended in m/c. I would've kept going, but it was getting expensive ($100/week + herbs) and it didn't seem to be helping me any further after 5 or so months.

I love my accupunture appts. I started them for fertility but when we were on a TTC break I continued with them. It helped with stress, sleep/fatigue, depressed moods, aches and pains and PMS symptoms.

I go about 3-4 times a month. My insurance covers 30 appts a year so I only have to pay for my $20 copay.

I've been on anti-depressants and considered going back on some meds for my PMS mood swings. I just realized today that I might not need mood altering drugs. It feels great!

I love it.

My accupunturist has a website that shows all the research on how accupunture can help with infertility. Here is her website. http://conceivewellness.com/page/research/

I loved my acupuncture sessions, I went for eczema and allergies, it took a little longer for that to work. I always felt so relieved and just great overall afterwards. It's covered under most policies, I went while my husband was laid off and paid about $50/session twice a week and that did get a little spendy. If I could find the time I'd love to go back.

That is exactly what I had acupuncture for. It started working almost immediately for the anxiety... It really took that elephant off my chest, so to speak. I did need to see the chiropractor also to help with infertility, but that combined with acupuncture lead to my :bfp:

It probably took four or so sessions to feel functionally free from anxiety and six months to see results for fertility. I did not find it too expensive.

I have been battling stress and anxiety for the past year. I've always been an anxious person but it's finally gotten to the point in the past year where I'm now seeing someone to work on my issues. So far this person (I don't really know what her title is--she works in my OB's office) has mostly just recommended deep breathing exercises to me.

I'm interested in acupuncture for anxiety/infertility (I think helping the anxiety will help the infertility) but I don't know anyone who has done it IRL. If you've done it, what was your experience like? Also, is it really expensive? Do you have to have many sessions for it to be effective?
