@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: we got these instead: http://m.landofnod.com/i-think-i-canvas-cube-bin/f957

We didn't have very heavy items in the old ones, but the constant taking them in and out made them shred.

The Kallax series is very sturdy. We've moved ours twice, and they are still in great shape.

@Mrs. J: they are. I think when I was deciding which bins to get you shared that feedback. They are holding up well so far, but I have been careful to not overload them with super heavy items. Which bins did you replace them with? I really like their new wood & wire bins. http://images.landofnod.com/is/image/LandOfNod/Cube_Bin_Wood_Wire_Group/$web_product_lg$/161207140440/wood-and-wire-cube-bin.jpg

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: are those striped bins from land of Nod? If so, be careful! They're made of paper and fall apart (I speak from experience). Luckily, they let me pick out new bins, so I got different ones.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: ahh i like this combo!! The problem with our baskets in our kallax is that they just end up pulled out and throw around the room.

We have a mix of Trofast and Kallax. I picked the Kallax 4 cubby units to have more flexibility to move pieces around. Kallax is great for books, and larger, heavier toys that should be seen in order to safely retrieve them. I love the hidden toy sorting I can do with Trofast because of the three different bin sizes. I envision over time getting more Trofast units.

I disliked the Kallax/Expedits for toy storage. The squares were too deep to keep things organized well and it always felt messy to me. My son would need to pull every toy out to get to the one in the back.

I LOVE our Trofasts! We have two of them and I'm getting a third soon (we need a better space for playdough and art supplies since they are currently in a basket on top of the units). I love that we can separate toys easily by theme/type and the bins are small so they are easier to clean up/manage. You can also buy shelves to put into the Trofast units for larger toys that don't need a bin (like we put RC cars on, etc). We keep a small amount of kids' books on our bookshelf in the area too, instead of trying to fit them on this unit. We keep most books in his room.

Sorry for the dark picture...we have lots of big trees and little sunlight right now!

We have a 4x4 kallax in the playroom. I love it and it holds a ton. We actually mounted it on top of two cabinets (meant to be above the refrigeration type) for extra concealed storage.

ETA: we moved with this and it's still plenty sturdy. But we do have it anchored to the wall for extra safety. The bins are IKEA too. My 3 yo has climbed in and out of them tons of times and they are still in good shape.

Hello! I was going to make a trip to Ikea to get some storage units to organize toys and set up a toy rotation system. I was looking in their website for those white units that hold the storage boxes. I remember seeing units with 8 compartments and the larger ones with maybe 20 compartments. I don't see them on their website. Does anyone have those? Do you like them? Are they pretty sturdy? Do you know what they are called now?
