@Mrs squirreld: The wild bird sounds more like the culprit, rather than the ice cream! Store bought eggs are usually pretty safe.

This kind of stuff happens ALL the time. You are NOT a bad mom! This could happen to anyone... a bad mom would not be so proactively taking care of their LO and cleaning/trying to prevent it again. That shows you are a GREAT mom. Steam clean and then move on knowing you did the best job you could! No one can protect their kiddos from EVERYTHING. I say you are above the curve for great-mom-ness.

Did you eat the ice cream? If so, it might not have been the ice cream. Usually everyone who eats something gets it. It might have been from your DH handling something and touching the baby. Not to blame your DH, but it's possible that you had nothing to do with it!

LO will get better, though! Keep nursing, it's the best thing for him!

You are not a terrible mom! Omg - I eat raw cookie dough ALL the time now that I'm not pregnant, I never even thought that I could pass salmonella to her through my milk! This totally could have been me. This is a good PSA for me!

As for the blocked tear ducts C had them also about a month ago. She would wake up with lots of yellow crusty puss each morning ... The dr gave me some drops and it cleared up very quickly. I also massaged a her ducts with a drop or two of breastmilk.

Anyway point of my post is .. You aren't a bad mom!!you love and care for your sweet boy and that's the tell tale sign of a superstar mother :-) hope you are all feeling better soon!

@T.H.O.U.: woah. My so called doctor told me through the milk but I just a googled it and your right it can't be - breast milk actually prevents it. So E is exclusively breastfed. So then he must have got it from my hands? Oh that's horrible. I wash them all the time. :-(

You are definitly not a terrible mom! When I was a kid our well water was contaminated with ecoli (earwigs had made a nest in the well cap and enough fell into the water to cause contamination as they decomposed!- so rare) and we drank it FOR MONTHS. We were older and no one actually got sick amazingly but for months we consumed ecoli and had no idea. Stuff like this happens... Don't beat yourself up. No matter how careful you are these little bugs have a way of working themselves into the food chain occasionally :-/

Ok I'm a step up from a terrible mum because Atleast I took him to the doctors persistently until they did tests. E has salmonella :-( 4 months old and has salmonella. Oh and his blocked tear duct is also infected. I made some homemade Icecream which had raw eggs in it and I must have got it from that and passed it onto him in my milk. :-/ DH also got it. I can't believe I made my little boy sick. :-(

I am now a germaphobe.

Please tell me it's more common than I think.

I am grateful we have an answer to the blood in his stool though and it's nothing more serious.
