We've been dealing with this a lot lately, especially while traveling the last few weeks when we were sometimes stuck waiting. I tell my son it is ok to be bored (he's 5), that it is ok to sit there and just think thoughts and that he cannot be entertained every moment of the day. I will also offer a suggestion of something he can do to occupy himself (color, look at a book, etc.). I honestly think it's good for kids to be bored sometimes, especially in this day and age when adults are constantly on their phones and boredom never occurs.

I say "huh, what are you going to do about that?"

When they're older, I think I'll present them with a list of "extra" chores they can do.

I tell them to start picking toys to go in the garage sale and give away! They get to playing real fast.

When your LO says they are bored, what do you say/do? My almost 4 year old just started this and it drives me crazy. She has so many toys to play with. I was thinking of something like a boredom jar, but I'm not sure if she is old enough for it...or what I would even put in it for her age.
