@photojane: aww I was going to suggest celebrating a different day as well, and maybe planning something special for December 25th, like pajamas and cocoa for mommy. But it really is sad. But the upside is that every Christmas from here on out you are celebrating with your child, which makes it A MILLION TIMES more amazing!!! I'm a crazy Christmas lover too, and it shocked me how much more incredible the holidays are through the eyes of a child!!

His weekend is Sunday-Monday, so maybe we'll just celebrate on Monday. Early Christmas!!! Whoo!

Ugh that sucks! I'd be bummed too. Does this mean he might be off next year though? Christmas will probably be fun next year when your LO is a little older anyways, so maybe think about that!

it does suck! my husband is working christmas night (which means he has to sleep a good portion of the day) and i'm so sad about it!

i don't know if this helps you, but i try to think about all the military families whose husbands/wives are deployed during the holidays and that usually helps me feel grateful that at least i will get to see him that day and every other day...

@photojane: I'm sorry lady :( My mom is a nurse, and she often had to work on either Thanksgiving or Christmas. Those years, we celebrated when everyone was together, either with a big brunch in the morning, or on the day before, or the day after, etc. The good thing about Christmas is you have the whole season to be festive!

I am so sorry, this would make me very sad, too. I hope that you can do some other Christmas-y things before the actual day, and that you have family that you can spend time with on that day so you won't miss him quite as much (maybe??). Is there something special that you can do that will become a new tradition for you guys?

I'm sorry! My DH leaves Dec 12th for work and doesn't return until Jan 6th:(. So he will totally miss Dec 25th also...But we are going to do Santa and have Christmas when he gets back. H won't know the date:). I agree with Blackbird- you can celebrate the day before or after and S will be just as ecstatic:)

I agree with @blackbird: You make Christmas Eve, or the day after Christmas morning. Sadie won't know the difference. Then Christmas day you spend with family.

Mr brother is a Fire/Medic and has to work on Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day this year. It sucks, first year that they live in the town and still can't come to holidays.

@photojane: Awww, hugs Mama! My H is a police officer and he will be working on our LO's first Christmas too. I love what @blackbird: said though - Christmas will happen when you celebrate it!

@photojane: Oh honey. I would cry too! :( I'm so sorry!
Will he be gone the entire night? How old is Sadie?

My DH works in retail so I can empathize a little. It will be just me and LO at home alone most of the holidays, with the exception of Christmas day. Thanksgiving is tough because of stupid black Friday. He has to go in to work at like 10 pm, maybe earlier this year. Boo.

Christmas happens when you celebrate it. Holidays are about getting together with family when you can, not about celebrating on that specific day. If he has Christmas Eve or the day after off, that can be when your Christmas is :)

Dan works for our state's department of transportation. He works in an office that makes sure everything on the roadways is safe, which is awesome, but it means he works year-round. The office obviously can't close for weekends or holidays. He just got a promotion (yay!), but it changed his off days (boo!).

Now he will have to work on Sadie's first Christmas. I know we're blessed that he even has a job at Christmas, but I am still so bummed. :( If you know me, you know I'm a lunatic about Christmas - I mean, I LOVE it. I've been especially excited about this year now that I'm a mama. I've cried a few times since he told me, but I try to hide it from Dan, because I don't want him to feel guilty.

I don't know why I'm sharing, other than some sympathy. I'm just so sad. :(
