try sending in more solids and see what happens--as LO's interest in solids grows, he may drink less. my LO, who is the same age, gradually started drinking less from his bottles over a couple of months, to the point where he basically wasn't drinking the last bottle. i wish i could tell you how much solids he was eating per day, but daycare provides his breakfast/lunch/snack so i'm not sure--i think they kinda let the kids eat as much as they want (within reason). they were also offering him a straw cup of cow milk or water with lunch and the snack. you could try sending in more food for a week to see how things go--if he's not eating much of it and still drinking all the bottles, then maybe he wants to stick with bottles for a little while longer.

Are you planning on weaning or will you continue nursing past one? My feeling is that a lot of the guidelines regarding solids are based on a baby being weaned at one so a baby who is continuing to receive breastmilk isn't going to need the same quantity of solids!

As far as the weight gain goes, my LO has barely put on a pound in six months but she's got taller and she was an early walker. Weight gain is only one indicator of health and if your LO is still happy, meeting milestones and gaining some weight then he's doing good!

We actually just made this transition a month ago. She now gets 3 straw cups of milk per day for a total of about 16-18 oz. She also gets water throughout the day. I've bulked up a bit on the size of her meals b/c she'll always eat however much I give her and now she also gets 2 snacks. At her 12 mo appt. she was 20 lbs. and had only gained about a lb. since the last time but the dr. wasn't concerned, she's growing steadily in the 50th percentile.

@blackbird: Yeah, unfortunately he didn't get much taller, either. I think some of it had to do with the fact that we were trying BLW and he wasn't eating much. Once we went back to more purees, he put on weight more quickly, but then he got sick and wasn't eating well. I don't know. His 12 month appointment is next week, so we'll see. I also think that our ped is a little more conservative than others, and I think she was using the growth chart for FF babies rather than BF babies, and D was EBF until I started mixing in WCM a couple weeks ago to start transitioning him. Cuz at the same appointment she also told me that he was behind in his gross motor development because he wasn't crawling or pulling up yet.

@purrpletulips: I send a straw cup of water to daycare. I have absolutely no idea how much he actually drinks throughout the day, though, because they can't send anything "unfinished" home, so everything gets dumped. And they don't mark down the ounces or amounts drunk/eaten. Which is annoying to me.

I guess I could start offering milk in a sippy at home and see what he does with it?

Also curious how this will go for us!

Btw, E gained 1 lb over 3 months (but got a lot taller) and our ped wasn't concerned. Buuuuut she did say she drinks too much formula and needs more food, so I'm trying to work more food into her diet and wondering how that'll figure into her once she's a year old.

You can't force feed them, so i'm kind of in the camp of "feed what they'll eat, offer the food, see how it goes" opinion right now =\

Does your LO get any water during the day or just BM/WCM? It sounds like you could replace the snack bottle with a sippy of water and your LO would still be getting plenty of milk. Switching from bottle to sippy for milk will depend upon your LO. The amount of solids you are sending sounds fine.

I only gave DD WCM in a sippy and she never refused it (she was BM/formula due to supply issues). DS wouldn't drink WCM out of a sippy for anything (if we gave him any kind of milk in a sippy he'd look at it then push it away) once he stopped nursing entirely he started drinking WCM out of a sippy without any problem (100% BM).

Once we switched to 100% WCM we made it only available during meal times with water the rest of the day.

D is 12 months old. For the past 6 months, I have been sending 3 6oz bottles to daycare. I also send solids. So right now he nurses at 6:30am, gets breakfast and bottle at 9:30am, lunch and bottle at 12pm, and snack and bottle at 4pm, then dinner at 6, nurse to sleep at 7:30.

For solids, I was sending 2-3oz yogurt and 1/2 banana for breakfast, 3oz puree for lunch, and 3oz puree for snack. I recently changed it so that I'm sending in mostly real solids, plus daycare now provides breakfast in his new room. So I send 1/2 banana, usually 3oz of a protein and 3oz of veggie for lunch, and 3oz of fruit or puffs/snacks for afternoon snack. PLUS he's still getting the 3 bottles of milk.

At what point do I start sending in sippy cups? When does he start dropping bottle feedings? Am I sending enough solids?

I'm really confused about all this food transitioning and I worry that I"m not feeding him enough. He's a little guy - probably just barely over 20 pounds. At his 9-month appointment we got lectured that he hadn't gained enough (he'd only gained 1 lb in 2 months), and if my calculation of barely over 20 lbs is right, then that's still only 2 lbs over 3 months. GAH!!!
