My niece has a pretty long name and my first reaction was ok, what's her nickname? Her name is Rose and we got so many personalized things with her name and roses on them before she was born. We didn't have a backup, I loved the name and just hoped it would work for her, and I figured if it didn't I'd cross that bridge when we got there. I'll be honest though - I think once you name a baby, they always look like that name because that IS their name. That is, once she's Gwendolyn for a few weeks, it'll be part of her and inseparable from her. The first couple of days I panicked about whether we'd picked the right name for LO, but now I can't imagine her as the other! People's opinions can certainly alter your own feelings on a name you love, plus the added pressure and anxiety of birth being on the horizon, I can see how you may be second guessing the name. Maybe see if you can come up with a second option and wait until you meet her to decide? The items that already have her name can be changed and who cares if everyone else already knows the name? She hasn't been born yet and nothing is set in stone...opinions can change and all you have to say is she looked more like an ____ once we got to meet her if you do change your mind. I knew this would happen. We picked out LO's name (Gwendolyn + my maiden name + our last name) ages ago. Everyone knows what it is, I have her name above the closet... and now, at 31w, I can't decide if she's a Gwendolyn! I don't know what the heck else I would name her, since we couldn't agree on another name, but I just have this naggin feeling that she's *not* a Gwendolyn.
