The few times that LO has slept with us, it has been awful! She makes our sleeping situation into a giant H, and whoever gets her feet gets kicked all night long ;)

I try really hard to stick to the 4am rule. If she wakes up before 4am I try my hardest to get her to go back to sleep in her crib. If its after 4am she comes in bed with me and hubs to nurse and sleep for another hour or so. My husbands alarm goes off before 5am but i dont need to be up until 6am so it helps me get that last little bit of sleep before we start our day.

Our experience has been pretty peaceful. We've shared a bed since birth, and while LO will occasionally rotate horizontally when she starts stirring in the morning, she's pretty still and mellow, overnight. I think it depends on the kiddo and their preferences for space.

I think bed size has to do a lot with it. Just me and DS on a queen isn't too bad since i can scoot over to another part of the bed once DS is fast asleep.

Me, DH, and DS on a queen??? No ma'am!!

@Arden: I think its different depending on the kid you have, but I'm glad its worked well for you. I co-bedded from day one, and although we made it to 8 months it really never worked that well for us. She has always moved a lot, made a lot of noise in her sleep, and if she's in bed with me she wants to be latched on- like, physically touching me wasn't enough. Latched on. I cannot sleep like that.
I wanted to do it for several reasons, but after awhile I had to accept that it just wasn't what was best for my kid and my family. Every baby is different. I felt kind of guilty because I failed the co-bedding A.P. thing but got over it when I realized it was probably a sign of health attachment if I could change my plans based on what my kid needed.

This past week while DH has been away DS has had some rough nights, so part way through the night I've brought him in my bed. He doesn't necessarily sleep better but if he fusses I can just pat him back to sleep and not have to get up. Luckily he likes to cuddle up to me so I still get some of the bed.

I don't think I could co bed full time though since I don't sleep as soundly when he is in there.

I think that it's different when you co-sleep from the start. DD doesn't think that our bed is a place for play, she knows it's for sleep. We all sleep really well, I swear I'm not some crazy hard sleeper. She stays pretty chill.

I never intended to cosleep with my son, but we kind of fell into it to get through the tough times the first year and then we had a major regression when he was 2 and now, it's just continued (he's 3.5). I love it, but don't get me wrong, there are nights when he can't fall alseep that I am just itching to get out of there.

@MamaMoose: Awww... that is terrible!! One time LO headbutted right in my nose! I was just in so much pain, it's so hard not to cry in pain but you just have to power through it so you don't ruin the sleep progress! :) LO headbutted DH in the eye pretty badly once too. Such a terrible sleeper!

LOL we co bed about twice a week if LO is having trouble sleeping. He is a terror! Feet in face... head butting... sitting up and than slamming his whole body down usually on a body part of me or DH. Though once he's a sleep he's great. Sometimes we move him to his bed after he finally falls asleep.

Yeah people that can co-sleep peacefully with their kids are amazing! :)

We co bedded until about 8 months. From 6 to 8 months it was torture. It just doesn't work for some babies, mine included. I would have loved to keep going but nobody was sleeping! As soon as we put her in her own room, things improved (improved being relative, of course).
