I'm glad it wasn't too bad for both of you. It sucks to leave them but its awesome to see how excited they are when you come back.

@Mrsjets: @littlek: @BabyBoecksMom: Thank you, mamas!

It didn't go as badly as I thought but it was definitely rough for both of us... I thought I was going to start crying while leaving him! He didn't notice I had left after I said bye and I took a quick peek before leaving and he looked fine. However, after he realized I was gone, he was pretty much unhappy the rest of the day. I certainly picked a wonderful time to try daycare for the first time with separation anxiety starting!

The daycare staff was wonderful though! They reassured me and gave me an honest report (they didn't try to say he was just so happy and everything was perfect) each time I called.

As soon as I came back for him at the end of the day, he was super excited to show me all the toys and explore with me! The best part was coming back to him and his HUGE smile when he saw me.

We will be doing this maybe once a week to help him get used to it for now (I hope!).

Awww it's tough for me and I'm a WOHM. These are the things that help me:
Don't drag out your goodbye. If you need to stay and hold him a few min while he adjusts, fine, but once you're ready, just hand him over, give a kiss and walk out. The mire you make a big deal about it, the more anxiety he'll build up.
Bring something that smells like you or sleep with one of his blankets so it has your scent. If he's really having a hard to.e, it might help him to have a familiar scent and item.
Call as much as you need to for you to feel better.

Good luck!

My LO has been going to daycare since 4 months so we didn't deal with separation anxiety. But a little boy started in Bs class at 10 months old and he has awful separation anxiety. I'd try and bring a favorite toy or treat. Also, try and make your goodbye quick.

Aww, I can't say I've been in your position (I'm a SAHM) but I've found that playing with DS with whoever is babysitting for a while first and then sneaking out is much easier on him. Maybe bring a blanket or lovey for nap time? Good luck!

So, I'm a mostly WAHM but this Thursday I have a business meeting I must go to which DS can't attend with me.. I'm taking him to daycare for the first time EVER (drop in care). He is almost 9 months old and has been having separation anxiety recently. I'm worried he'll be a wreck there and I am certainly not ready for this myself. Tips, mamas?
