@JoJoGirl: great quote from your dad!
We were lucky to pretty much skip peanut butter poop--it is either hard enough that it rolls off, or still like EBP poop and it washes right off.
Of course he is only 7 months and doesn't eat that much solid food at a time.

@Mrsbells: @skibobrown: @glimmersnaps: Thanks all for your feedback! Agree, like everything else with LOs, we'll have to figure out what works. :) Oh and @glimmersnaps: I told my mom yesterday we were considering CDing and she said "you mean with safety pins?" - I sent her your blog and she was totally blown away ;) My dad responded "calling those cloth diapers is like calling this thing in my hand a phone". Ha!

I also don't love liners... I find they get really bunched up and don't catch everything. Also they give him a wedgie and poor thing thinks he's pooped and runs to me to get changed. One brand actually gave him diaper rash, too.

I just use a hand-held spray bottle (actually it's the peri bottle from the hospital) to spray anything off. We also live in a small place and don't have a changing table in the bathroom, but we just take the diaper off in there while he's standing up and put the new diaper on in the bedroom. I like that because it starts the idea that the bathroom is for potty.

I'm sure you'll find out the best system for your babe and family. Congrats!!

We used the sprayer only a couple of times after DD started on solids. We immediately realized that it wasn't for us and started using liners. We've had no problems since then. Like Artbee, we sometimes have to use a wipe to remove some excess that sneaks out around the liner. These days I risk it sometimes and don't use a liner if DD has already pooped during the day. She only really ever poops once per day.

@JoJoGirl: Honestly, you can read reviews about how dry the liners stay. If my LO pees, I could almost re-use the liner that is how dry it is!

We use liners and I love them. I didn't want to deal with a sprayer or anything else either. Occasionally some poo will sneak out on the edge of the diaper, and I just use a wipey to wipe it off.

@Thehistoryofus: Also good to know. Another concern I had with liners is that if you have pockets, they stay wet and sort of defeat the purpose of the stay-dry. It might make sense then to use pockets at night so they are super dry and use AIO+liner during the day since by the time LO is eating solids, I hear he/she won't be pooping at night anymore anyway?

@JoJoGirl: Also, by the time my LO started really eating solids (around 6 months) she was down to about two poos per day. Now at a year she is pretty consistent at just one per day.

@Thehistoryofus: Yep yep, I'm definitely clear on that part with EBF, it's more what happens after that I'm worried about (like a post-EBF, pre-liner phase I'm unaware of). I also have other concerns line nowhere for a clothesline to sun in our apartment, etc., but one thing at a time ;)

Again, also to reiterate. You don't need to do anything with the poo or even use liners when they are newborns and still on breast milk. Toss those diapers straight into the wash.

We have a sprayer, but hardly every use it. We rely pretty heavily on liners as well and 99% of the time, that is all we need. ,

I have been using my liner method on my CD's for over a year now. I don't have any sprayer on my toilet and don't rinse any thing in the shower.

However, if some poo does get stuck on the diaper, we do use the scrape method. We keep a spatula in the bathroom (with the toilet scrubber). If poo is stuck on the diaper we scrape it into the toilet. Honestly this happens MAYBE twice a month. So with about 7 plus diapers changes per day, 2 out of 200 diaper changes isn't so bad.

No matter what you will have to deal with poo. In disposables we dealt with way more blow outs and poo everywhere and I was having to scrub clothes covered in poo.

@JoJoGirl: I've been following your threads as well because we plan to CD from day 1 with straight cloth, but I always enjoy hearing different questions and opinions cause there's so much to learn! I also recently went to a CD workshop and I have to say, things did get easier for me after that. Also, I'd suggest you join Diaper Swappers, a forum all about cloth diapering and you can also buy/sell/trade on there. It's been SUPER informative for me to follow some threads on there.

I'm sort of spinning off my own thread here (http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/best-hybrid-diaper-brand#post-475059).

I think the only way DH and I are both going to be convinced to go to straight cloth (vs. hybrids with disposable liners) is if we can avoid a diaper sprayer/scraper/dunker/etc. We live in a small condo with no room for a table in the bathroom and I'm not even sure our toilet has an external connection and our showerhead is not handheld. I got super excited in my thread about the idea of flushable/biodegradeable diaper liners (although I know some people say not to flush them, just trash them).

So my question is this: is it realistic to expect we can go into this endeavor and once we start on solids, rely pretty heavily on the liners? I think I fear there is some in-between poop stage I don't know about after starting solids but before the poop is solid "enough" to be caught by the liner and we're going to end up regretting all this. We both work full-time and feel like this really needs to be as easy as possible (for us and daycare) to buy-in.

Thanks guys :) Sorry for my CD obsession the last few days. I AM going to a CD workshop on 1/20 so I could just wait to ask them all these questions.. but ... I'm not. ha ha.
