For what it's worth, my daughter is on the low end of fine motor control, and it's fine. Her handwriting isn't as good as the others in her kindergarten class, but she's catching up. It's no big deal.

I posted on this same topic not too long ago and got some good answers - I'll see if I can find it! A few things we've done are:

- cutting coupons (beginning with assisted scissors)
- giving her a pair of small wood tongs/beginner chopsticks to play with while she's watching a tv show
- squishy balls to fidgit with watching tv/in the car
- anything she can do with tweezers - we've done pom poms into easter eggs, water beads in the tub, etc. This set is fun:

ETA: Here's my post - I think that you've gotten some similar suggestions, but just in case!
http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/ot-toys-for-fine-motor-strength

ETA: Also, just wanted to share that in the six weeks since I've posted that, DD1's cutting and writing have both really improved. We didn't do much, but tried to incorporate these activities when we could (making valentines, writing bday cards for friends). As she started to be set up for success (and got to enjoy some alone time with me working on it), her interest level in the activities increased! :)

Yes to building hand strength! Legos and puzzles with knobs are good! Writing or drawing at easels is good too, try tiny pieces of chalk or crayon rocks as well.

@2littlepumpkins: spray bottles with water help to improve hand strength! And it's fun in the sink or tub.

We do a few games to help too: there is a Squirrel game that uses this squirrel tong thing. Also, Operation, Stuff the Pig, and that Go Fish game.

You want to build the hand muscles! Monkey bars, climbing, and stiff clay (no utensils, just rolling and pinching and shaping with fingers) build those muscles well. Also using tweezers and tongs and clothespins!

I also love the Kumon books, they also have ones that are for cutting and folding. My son loves the mazes, I think we have every single one of them!

Also writing in sand or in shaving cream on a table or in the bathtub. There is also a handwriting without tears app called wet dry try that is good too.

My mother-in-law got my son this one:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/4774307076/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1488222303&sr=8-3&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=kumon+workbooks+preschool&dpPl=1&dpID=51AX1RC3FaL&ref=plSrch
It is mazes mostly. Start easy and gets harder.

You could try cutting, lacing cards, and Kumon makes some books that are game based activities for drawing different kinds of lines such as straight curved zigzag etc. I'll see if I can find a link

Did anyone do special activities to work on their LO's fine motor skills? We just got the most recent developmental and it was listed in the narrative part as something they're working on with DD. I noticed she has a little trouble with handwriting although she has recently gotten into tracing letters in those books (really, she asks for new ones at least weekly!) and trying to write more, and I think all the practice is helping at least in that specific area.

Just looking for other activities to help her in this area.
