@MoonMoon: Sorry you had to deal with this with your husband out of town, too. I am pretty good in crisis, and didn't get upset after, until we were waiting for the police to come, and called my husband. Whenever I hear his voice on the phone in a situation like this, I just start bawling! Glad to hear that your insurance covered the medical checkup. Luckily, being in Canada, it's one this I didn't have to worry about. The ultrasound and seeing a doctor went a long way to easing my mind, although I intellectually knew that the fetus is so small and protected at this point.

@Mrs. Sunshine: Thanks! Just a bit of muscle stiffness that's already fading.

@Astro Bee: Hi I'm glad to hear everything is fine!

I had a very similar situation at about 8 weeks, a car accident (and husband was out of town too, I was on the way to the airport to pick him up). I was pretty upset but not physically hurt. I spoke with my OB on the phone that night and she said when it's that early, the pregnancy is pretty protected because the uterus hasn't popped out yet. The insurance company paid for a checkup and ultrasound so we went in to be safe and that's how we got to see the baby/embryo for the first time!

Thanks for the well wishes, everyone. It turns out that everything is fine. The doctor that I saw wasn't able to detect the heart rate on the Doppler, since it's so early, so she sent me for an ultrasound. Fetus and placenta were both fine, and a healthy FHR of 164 bpm. I still have my appointment tomorrow with my family doctor, and the silver lining is that I wouldn't have been able to detect it tomorrow without an ultrasound anyway, and it's not likely I would have gotten one, since I knew my LMP.

@Banana330: Thanks, and yes, I aware. The seat has been taken out of the car. The insurance company will reimburse us, and we just need to send them the receipt and a picture of the old seat straps cut. It's the Clek Fllo, so I'm glad we don't have to buy it again outright.

@BabyBoecksMom: @youboots: @MarieJ: Glad you and the babies were all okay.

@Corduroy: We're only having one baby, but I joked to DH that that's why we have two printouts from the ultrasound, because we were having twins. His face was priceless!

@Astro Bee: Sorry to hear about your accident, but glad to hear you're ok.

I was in a pretty bad accident when I was 19 weeks pregnant (I was stopped and someone hit me from behind going about 40 mph). I was in pain and went to my OB to get checked. They took ultrasound to make sure the placenta was ok (it was). My doctor said the baby is pretty well protected, but he did warn me that there wasn't much that could be done to save the baby if I went into labor before 22 weeks.

@Astro Bee: Hope everything goes okay! Don't be freaked out if you can't hear a heartbeat at 9 weeks, that is very early! The baby has plenty of cushioning so I'm sure everything is fine!

I had a minor car accident when I was around 10 weeks pregnant with my first daughter. Someone ran into the back of me at a light. I declined going to the ER because I felt fine and I had a doctor's appointment later that week. Everything turned out okay.

@Astro Bee: Glad you're ok! It's probably worth getting checked out anyway. In case you're not aware some car seats need to be replaced after any kind of accident.

@peaches1038: Thanks! Will do. Aside from the adrenaline afterwards, it wasn't very scary. I mean, it was on the highway and I was trying to pull over and not get hit again. I'm usually really calm in moments of crisis. It might have been another story of DS was in the car though.

@Corduroy: What a surprise! And a good outcome. I am expecting to see the heart beat today, and maybe an ultrasound if they need to check out the placenta. I don't know if I could handle twins at this point, although they do run in my family, so we've always known it was a possibility.

Not me but someone I know had a minor accident early on. The check revealed she was fine and having twins.

On the way to pick up my son from daycare today I was in a minor car accident on the main highway through my city. Thankfully, my son wasn't in the car. I feel physically fine, and emotionally so too, so I declined going to the emergency room in the ambulance. My husband is away, and we have no one to watch our son, so this may have factored into the decision, but only very slightly. However, if the car accident had been more severe, or I was much more advanced in my pregnancy, of course I would have gone in right away.

I have an appt on Thursday morning to confirm my pregnancy with my family doctor and be referred to my OB. However, I am going to go in tomorrow to our clinic to be checked over just to be safe.

I was just wondering if anyone had experienced something similar, either a car accident or a fall, in their first trimester? I'll update everyone with the results of my doctor's appt tomorrow.
