we are planning to use an in-home day care because all the others are too expensive. the only reason I am ok with this is because I personally know the lady who runs the place and we attend the same church

there are good and bad ones, just like center based daycares. it just depends on what is available in your area. i looked at a 3 home daycares around us and 2 were very dirty. they both utilized basement spaces because that's the space available in their homes, presumably. i didn't like the thought of my LO not seeing daylight for most of the day. i think they are not regulated as strictly as center based daycares? not totally sure, but that was my impression of the 3 home daycares that i saw. i think they can have higher provider to baby ratios, too. since my LO was only 6 months when we started, i wanted a 1:2 ratio which is what i found at our center based daycare.

We aren't going to use an in home daycare, but we have friends do and they are happy with their childcare arrangement. They feel their child's childcare provider is like a second grandmother and they love that.

We are opting to use a day care center because we were so impressed with the daycares we toured. They all had detailed curriculums and lesson plans and a wide variety of optional activities (art, music, dance, sports, foreign language, etc). Two of the schools we loved incorporate Spanish and Sign Language in with the curriculum, which is important to us. At the end of the day, we wanted the development and education focus our daycare will provide. The cost is not cheap, but we feel like we're getting a lot for the tuition.

Good luck with your research and decision. Who know how time consuming and stressful looking for childcare could be?!?! In some ways I feel like applying to college was an easier process!

I cant say I use this, because I dont have a LO yet. But my brother and I went to an in home facility and to this day the gal is like a 2nd mother to us. I think if you find a good one, ask around your area for referrals. I would def consider doing in home care with our future LO's.

Doing our research for childcare has been frustrating. We have looked at every center base facility around us. While we loved two of them, the cost is obscene! We have opened up to looking at in-home daycares now. Do you of you use in-home daycares and what are your thoughts of them?
