I guess I don't think one day in two months is unusual. You can't really control when/how much sickness hits... I think what's important is that you trust that she (or her children) is actually sick when she takes the days and only time will tell that.

Our in home provider has had to take a few sick days over the 2+ years LO has been there. Once for 1+ week when her husband was in the hospital. We only pay her when LO is present though... I guess I always figured that's the risk I take sending LO to a "one woman show" in home daycare type setting.

DD has been in an in home daycare since 3 mos old. She is now 3. Our provider definitely uses all of her built in days off. The first year she actually had kidney stones and ended up closed for a week and a half.

Having a provider's own children in the home with the other children increases the odds that the provider will have to close due to illness. If an unrelated child is sick, they stay home. If her child is sick, what choice does she have? My sister runs a daycare and has taken very few sick days, but she only has generally had one of her children home with her throughout that time. Having 3 I think increases the odds drastically. But in this case I think it's too soon to tell.

My SIL has watched my kids for the past two years and she's taken a number of sick and vacation days, my older son is now in a center full time and as soon as my younger son is old enough he'll go there as well. It's so much more predictable and we love the center. I love my SIL and am so happy she's watched my kids, but I have had to take a lot more time off and rearrange my work schedule to accommodate her.

We were in an in home for 6 months and I believe she took 2 sick days and had 3-4 instances of 'appointments' as she injured her hip. We knew of these in advance and her husband or mother watched the kids while she was out of the home for 1-2 hours (we were ok with this) Her own kids were older but she did catch a couple bugs from our son/other kids there.

We've used an in-home since DS was 3 months, and switched 5 months in. Daycare 1 - no sick days. Daycare 2 - no sick days. He's 2 now.
We did have to pick him up early once because her school-age son was sick. She also has a 3 yr old.

We've used in home daycare since LO1 was 12 weeks old. Our first in home took 2 sick days in the 4 years we were there, her house came down with a nasty bug over the 4th of July. We switched daycares when we moved to another in home (who has 3 young kids of her own) and she's already taken 1 sick day in 2 months. I'm starting to get nervous this will be a reoccurring issue.
