So we just had a refrigerator repair guy come out to look at our broken one. We need a new compressor. The good news is that there is a 10 year warranty from LG on this and I think a recall. The bad news is that I just talked to someone else going through the same issue and it'll take at least 5 weeks to get someone to come out from LG as they're really backed up and I don't want to pay the $1K+ to fix it myself. Super bummed about this. The guy we had come out has been fixing fridges for 40 years and told us to NEVER buy an LG or Samsung in the future. Take that however you want it.

We have a Samsung one that we just bought that we love. We had the same model in our previous house which we bought and had for 6 years with zero issues. We moved into our current house and had a Whirlpool and I HATED it. Pieces on it kept breaking, the water dispenser was really badly designed so that I ended up spilling water pretty much every time I used it (which is constantly. There was also a weird issue with condensation accumulating on the freezer door, so every time I opened it I would get my hand wet. And then the inside shelves started breaking. We decided to stop dealing with and get the Samsung model we had before and loved.

This is the one we have: https://www.lowes.com/pd/Samsung-28-cu-ft-4-Door-French-Door-Refrigerator-with-Ice-Maker-Fingerprint-Resistant-Stainless-Steel-ENERGY-STAR/1000863994?cm_mmc=shp-_-c-_-prd-_-app-_-google-_-lia-_-118-_-refrigerators-_-1000863994-_-0&placeholder=null&gclid=Cj0KCQjwnqH7BRDdARIsACTSAduGrjceA19wjlkRxfzbfYBIsiVy75zqOBURsebdZ8qYfxo-UtKs8aIaAgwfEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

We had an LG that died after 6 yrs I think. We replaces with a Samsung. Unfortunately the Samsung had issues. Within 2 yrs the spring broke on the French door little flippy thing. Then the back of it began to freeze. Repair man said same thing above. To defrost it completely once a year to try and avoid the very common issue. He had to take the interior back off and take out so much ice that had accumulated. I won’t buy anything Samsung again :) but anything nowadays has so many extra “cool” things that stuff is bound to not last. I have heard from the appliance fixers that new appliances just aren’t designed to last.

We have a Samsung that's about 10 years old and I still think it works great. My BIL just moved to a new house though and his fridge has an auto-sense water filler and he said it is such a wonderful convenience. If you fill a lot of water bottles or pitchers with filtered fridge water I think this would be a great feature to look for!

@Lahela017: I agree and there is something to be said about the quality of product you can buy now vs years ago - I am reading that the most efficient design is freezer up top which isn't a popular style now. And with so many new features (/parts that can break) no wonder people are unhappy.

A lot of reviews complain about interior size in these counter depth machines. Seems like an odd thing to complain about when it's just a basic fact of those machines.

@PurplePumps: we liked the look of the Samsung 4 door but yikes - that sounds awful.

Now considering the Frigidaire 4 door or, if we can get a great deal or insurance majorly comes through, the Kithenaid 5 door.

Interesting to hear all the negative reviews of LG. We bought our house a few years back and the kitchen has all LG stainless appliances. We've been super happy with them and haven't had any issues at all. My father-in-law also swears by LG. I think it just goes to show that you can get a lemon no matter what brand you choose.

I know two different people who bought LG fridges and both had absolutely terrible experiences. I've personally vowed to never, ever buy a fridge from that brand. And pretty interesting that @Mommy Finger: mentions similar issues above! So I guess I don't have a recommendation apart from avoid LG!!!!

We have a Samsung and will never buy one again. The coils in the back are poorly designed so they freeze up (apparently a common problem) and has to be defrosted like every 8-12 months. Having to empty every thing and leave the doors open for a day with space heaters pointing at it gets old fast. I read that if they're good at small electronics (Samsung, LG, etc) they probably suck at appliances, but just have a brand ppl think is good, and to stick with actual appliance makers - ge, whirlpool, etc.

@Clementine12: FWIW when we bought our appliances last fall, we were told Black Friday prices really aren’t any better 🤷🏻‍♀️

We got all of ours from Costco—typically a manufacturer warranty is 1 year, Costco extends it to 2 years. If you pay with the Costco credit card (it’s free) they extend it to 4 years. We got the credit card solely to purchase appliances with. If you’re an executive member you also get 4% cash back. Not sure on the interest rate as we immediately paid it off.

Costco will also price match themselves for 30 days after purchase. You just have to fill out a super short online form if you see the price dropped. We bought our appliance package mid November, and NOTHING dropped lower in the next 30 days (even though it was Black Friday) except the fridge dropped $100, which they credited back after I requested. :)

@Clementine12: HA! Thanks. :)

I think it depends on the fridge. Sometimes that 3rd drawer is strictly a freezer so you would just have 2 freezer drawers. Other times yes, you can change the temp so it can either be a freezer or a fridge drawer.

@Mommy Finger: love your username :silly: we talked about waiting for Black Friday sales but the constant trek to our small basement fridge broke me of that notion pretty quickly. Some units have variable temp in the third drawer so it could be freezer space in a pinch?

All I know is that we have a LG b/c that's the only brand that will fit our space in the style that we want (french doors, freezer on the bottom) and it's less than 4 years old and has broken down twice. Maybe we got a bum one as the previous version that was there when we bought the house lasted about 12+ years but I'm pretty salty about it. We're having trouble finding someone who will come out and take a look at it so who knows how long it will take before we know if we need to fix it or cut our losses and buy a new one. But you know, getting that leg work out every time I need to go downstairs to get something from the basement fridge. :crying:

We were debating about whether to get one with that 3rd drawer but originally went against it b/c you lost freezer space. I LOVE freezer space. But now I see the benefit b/c I always lose track of what's actually in the freezer drawer.

Ours went kaputz after a power surge. We're looking for a stainless color, counter depth fridge with a freezer drawer. Old fridge was a GE Profile. The tech (who estimated $1,200 to fix the compressor  ) recommended Frigidaire but we're not sure what to do otherwise. Any recs?
