Sleep training worked for DD1, but did NOT work on DD2. We tried it so many times but I just can't see how letting them cry/scream for an hour (or more!) is beneficial to them. Instead, I just gave in and enjoyed the snuggles since these moments are fleeting.
FWIW, DD2 started STTN on her own about 14 months old (and she used to wake 2-4x per night).

I never tried it for real but knowing her personality and the times when we did attempt, she is the kind to totally escalate too. I've never been comfortable with going longer beyond my comfort zone to know otherwise and we are okay to never find out. We are tired but I really do believe that she will STTN when she is ready. She is 8 mo and I've seen improvements in her sleep - I've seen her put herself back to sleep and put herself TO sleep, so I know she will get there when she's ready!

Jury is still out on dd2. The time she cried kept getting longer every night so i threw in the towel. Maybe will work next time. My nephew was un sleep trainable. He would cry so hard her threw up. So it didnt seem healthy to continue on with it.

Glad last night went well for you!

DS isn't sleep trainable. He's the kid that will cry till he throws up like crazy. So you go in, change his clothes and bed sheets, bathe him only to repeat the process until you give up. The most we've done this in one night was 4x. Oof!

He was a terrible sleeper since birth. He started sleeping better when we weaned (12 months), but didn't truly start STTN till we bottle weaned him (18 months). However, at 2, he's been waking up a lot again. Oof. Nothing can console him. He never took to a lovey either.

Yes ours would cry for hours and hours. Sleep training was horrific and did eventually work but we never tried again after a regression because it was so horrible. Like he was awake one whole night hysterical crying...

Thanks for your stories! It was helpful just to be able to vent and know someone was listening who had been there. A quick update! LO did awesome last night!!! He stopped crying soon after I posted here and then cried for about five minutes around midnight. Woke at 5 and I nursed him after which he went back down till 645! That's 12 hours folks!! Praying that tonight goes well too..

Mine was totally un-sleeptrainable. She is so stubborn. She would be up many many times at 11 months. She started sleeping through the night at 14 months. She still wakes up about once a night at just over 2. My other LO sleeps like a rock for the most part at 4 months.

I did not do CIO with DD because she get so sad and inconsolable when she cries and it breaks my heart. Luckily we started early with her drowsy but awake and she's been amazing sleeper since birth. DS was textbook case for CIO.

It's not unheard of for my 17 month old to wake up 3 times a night. The past 10 weeks she was up 2-4 times a night every night. I consider her to be a decent sleeper for a nursing baby, too. There's so many milestones and other things that impact sleep for some babies. I'll preface this by saying I do not believe in sleep training or CIO, but if you're leaving them to cry for 1 to 2 hours, I think that's way too much and not the approach for that child. In the not so distant future you will be on here looking for advice on how to get your kid out of bed in the morning! ;)

I read an article awhile ago that said 10-12 months is the worst time to sleep train because they're going through separation anxiety. I plan to try around 12 months (she's currently 10.5 months and I can just tell it would not work now...)

No advice on the sleep training part, bit wanted you to know you aren't alone with a child who just wont stay asleep. At 11 months, my LO was absolutely up several times a night.

She slept through the night for the first time ever around 1 year but still woke up most nights and now at 2 years old, wakes up 1-2 times a night.

We've sleep trained probably 4 times and things improve for a bit and then she regresses. Some kids just aren't good sleepers.

LO2 is 11 months old and it feels like jsut about every week we say it's the week to sleep train. We've tried endlessly but LO has a really high tolerance for crying it seems! (Is stubborn?) I know intellectually that if I go in to nurse after an hour, or even two, that he will learn that that is how long it takes to get me to come in to nurse, but...ugh.

We used Ferber with LO1 and it was so textbook. I think the most he cried was the first night and it was definitely under an hour. LO2 can cry all night it seems.

Anyone else feel like they had a baby who couldn't be sleep trained? A typical night he will wake up 3 + times and it just feels beyond what is normal for an eleven month old....

Also this just sucks. Sorry to be ranting and raving and if this isn't very linear but blerg. I need chocolate or cheese or both.
