@Jess1483: I would love to have an idea at least if whether I should take her in or not. Maybe I'll ask our ped!

@Foodnerd81: I'm not great at it. I can tell if it looks not normal, but not beyond that. And only sometimes. But my ped showed me how to use it with DS1. She won't prescribe based on my view, but it helps me decide whether to take them in.

@Jess1483: poor baby! The first time C had an ear infection it had gotten so bad her ear drum ruptured and she had puss coming out of her ear. I felt awful. But yeah I've brought her in to bed checked for an ear infection way more times that she's had one. Glad he's on meds and will feel better soon.

So you can see an infection with your otoscope? Do you have training or just practice from your older one?

I was going to say ear infection! Glad you got an answer and he's on the mend! Be wary of the yeast rash that might come with it!

@Foodnerd81: oh interesting. I'm worried I'm overreacting about potential ear infection because o took DS1 all the time, and he generally didn't have them (though he had 4 or 5 in the first 2 years). He always has a fever when he gets them. But if that isn't true of everyone, I'll def have DS2 checked. I actually have an otoscope, but he finally fell asleep with daddy this morning, so I'll check when he wakes. I'm not great at it, but I can usually tell if everything is fine or not.

I would guess ear infection. My LO hardly gets a fever and never tugs on her ears when she has one. I would also just keep up with the ibuprofen- something is bothering him, whether it's teething or ears or whatever, so I would try to ease that however I can. Poor baby!

@Jess1483: I don't have a lot of advice, other than what others have said - call the doc. I'm pretty sure my ped and the nurses think I am incompetent because I call so often. I hope everything turns out okay and that poor boy can get some rest. He may be irritable today because he is so tired and he can't figure out how to rest up to feel better.
Good luck!

@LBee: Haha. Yes, I'm kind of down to ear pain as the only possibility. And he did just finish a cold. But no fever and not tugging. Ugh.

He is surely teething, but it was sudden on-set miserable yesterday, and the meds didn't help. But maybe.

@Jess1483: No ideas, but I do distinctly remember googling "9 month old gremlin" and "9 month old complete change in personality" (I wrote both in his baby book as reminders for my next baby, ha!).... ends up a few days later he was back to his old self with two new teeth! It was his first set, so I guess he was like "wtf, what is this random pain ruining my life?!" All this to say, babies be crazy. I would go to the doctor, just in case, as PPs have mentioned. I've done farrrrr too many ear checks in my day. Often just going to the doctor (and paying my copay) seems to magically heal him!

I'd call the pediatrician and make an appointment so they can check him out. I'm thinking it could be an ear infection.

I'm so sorry! I was going to suggest what you already did, checking to make sure his fingers, toes, and diaper area are ok & not snagged on anything. Call the Dr, this definitely seems worth a visit. I hope he feels better soon!

My 8 month old is generally the most easy-going, happiest baby. Generally he STTN, although he's been sick and teething, so up a couple times. Yesterday, he was finally back to his happy self all day long. Good naps, happy demeanor, no problems. Then last night he woke screaming at 11 PM. Nothing I did could calm him down, but I eventually got him to nurse to sleep in bed with me. He was up most of the night, even in bed with me. Sometimes happy, but mostly mad if he wasn't finally dozing. This morning he has been entirely inconsolable. I checked fingers, toes, diaper area, he looks entirely fine and doesn't have a fever. I finally got him to calm down by showing him videos on YouTube, which I have never done before. But even now he isn't entirely happy. I will call the doctor if it remains the same through the morning (it is only 6 AM here), but I'd love if you guys have any suggestions or things to check. I'm at a total loss because this is so out of character for him.
