@Silva: I don’t think she is constipated- Just stubborn.

@Adira: @yoursilverlining: yeah I guess I need to just keep asking her and annoying her. Everything is a power struggle with her so I try to avoid them as often as I can but also... I don’t want her peeing all over the bathroom or playroom! Usually I can ask her a few times, she will say no, then a few minutes later go. Then when she finally goes it’s a production where somehow she takes 15 minutes to pee and wash her hands. (I am honestly amazed how easily she potty trained since she makes everything else as difficult as possible)

Yes, we did and when I brought it up at my daughter's 5 year old check-up our pediatrician said it's completely normal.

My daughter was similar, it sounds like to yours. Her accidents were distracted accidents and she would refuse to try when I suggested it. Setting up more regular check-ins with her helped (i.e., every 20 minutes asking her if she needed to go) and it also annoyed her which was good as I could then tell her I would stop annoying her if she would try. So, it worked out because she would try so that I would stop annoying her and "embarrassing her" in front of friends :silly:

I haven't experienced this myself, but are there ways you can try to mitigate it from happening? Like if you're going to have a playdate over, maybe right before they arrive, encourage her to go (not ask if she has to go, but say "Before so-and-so arrives, we have to use the potty!")? And depending on how long these playdates last, maybe you can try to install a potty break in the middle of them? Like after an hour or so, stop them and say "Time for a potty break!" and bring both (all?) kids to the potty to take turns going?

My daughter is 4.5, has been potty trained since she was about 2.5. Potty training her was surprisingly easy- once she got it she had almost no accidents. She’s never had an accident at preschool. Awesome.

Except lately she’s been holding it for so long that she runs crying to the bathroom and sometimes doesn’t make it and pees in her clothes and on the bathroom floor. Almost always this is at our house during a play date with a friend. Last night she fully peed in our (carpeted :crying: ) playroom.

She is extremely stubborn and when I ask if she has to go she says no and will often refuse to try without a huge tantrum. I don’t want her to feel shame over these accidents, but I do kind of want her to feel bad enough about them to try and not do it again, you know?

Anyone else go through something similar? Ideas on how to work through it? I should also add it’s always when she is playing upstairs with a friend- if I’m there I see the pee pee dance and eventually make her go. But she’s 4.5 and can play alone with her friends at this point- preferably without peeing in the rug.
