I'm in the same boat. My lo is 17 weeks. Some nights she will sleep 5-6 hour stretches but others it's just 2-3 hours and a couple times a night. From my experience with lo number 1, it's like this until around 6 months and even then unless you plan to switch to formula, they usually always still want one night feeding. Another tip is the 2 hour wakefulness during the day. After about 2 hours lo should lay down and nap! The more they learn to self sooth the easier. Good luck! !

@Mamaof2: We are sleep training just to so he goes down without 3-4 hours of bouncing on the ball each night. I'm fine waking to feed him, even more than once. But it seems like the increasing wakings are somehow related to the sleep training based on timing. If it's just a coincidental growth spurt and he needs three feedings, that's fine, but he doesn't nurse very much so I think it's probably about comfort. So my question is really whether others had this experience at different ages (and it's linked to the sleep training) or this is specific to the age/growth spurt.

In terms of timing, we are going based on the Bed Timing theory that 2.5-4 months is ideal or to wait until 5.5-7, based on his size and temperament. What we have now just can't continue -- literally, physically cannot continue -- through to 5.5 months.

So are you ok with night wakings but you are trying to get him to go to sleep w/o crying? Is that what you are doing? Or are you sleep training to get him to STTN?

There is a huge growth spurt at 12 weeks - I personally wouldn't sleep train and would feed him whenever he wants to eat even if its every few hours at night

Looking for advice or to see if others had a similar issue with sleep training. We just finished day 6, CIO with check and console, first three nights we'd actually pick him up to soothe now just a little belly rub calms him. While I do think it’s working to some extent, we aren’t getting the “no cry results” I see others having and somehow are winding up with MORE night wakings.

As background, our son is 12 weeks. That’s early, but I feel like at 16+ pounds his feeding/sleeping capacity is robust and his size make our 3-4 hour ball bouncing nighttime routine unsustainable. He also is fairly capable of self-soothing. Bedtimes have gotten better but there are still tears after 5 nights. More worrisome is he has actually increased the number of times he wakes during the night. Before starting he consistently woke once at 3:40 to nurse, occasionally he’d wake up twice. Day 1 woke up once, day 2 STTN (hallelujah!), Day 3 woke twice, Day 4 woke twice, Day 5 woke up three times, Day 6 woke three times.

We aren’t trying to night wean him, so I just go to nurse when he cries. Am I doing something wrong? Anyone see obvious issues I can fix in our sleep log? Is this normal and will get better on its own? We do a bath, nurse, story, bed routine and don’t plan to nap train until nights are under control. Help!

Night One: 27 minutes of crying over an hour, Up once at 3:50
Night Two: 15 minutes of crying, 12 hours of sleep, no night waking
Night Three: 15 minutes of crying, 11.5 hours of sleep, 2 night waking at 2:40 and 4:40
Night Four: 7 minutes of crying, 12. 5 hours sleep, 2 wakes ups at 2:40 and 4:20
Night Five: 12 minutes of crying, 11 hours sleep, three wake ups 1:20, 3:20, 4:58
Night Six: No crying when he laid down, but started crying 6 minutes later, 15 minutes of crying, 11.5 hours sleep, Up at 12:44, 1:40, 4:50
