Hmmm.. I cry now when I cut onions. I always thought that was a thing of tv shows and movies because that never happened to me but now I full on get tears running down my face. I never really thought about it but maybe that is yet another weird thing to change about me since Ive been pregnant/had a baby.

I don't know about cooking with them but I hate onions when I'm pregnant. Everything tastes way too onion-y when I'm pregnant. Normally I like onion... Must be the extra bloodhound sense of smell we all get!

Yup! My eyes were super sensitive in general, but especially when chopping onions. It did get a bit better later in my pregnancy. I worked in a grocery store deli when pregnant and often made sandwiches and did catering. It was brutal!

@nana87: Now that you mention it earlier this week I was chopping an onion and I had an uncontrollable flow of tears. I thought that was strange.

I dunno if it's the same thing but onions are one of the thugs that drive me crazy this pregnancy. Like I am super sensitive to the smell even if it's like a single piece of raw onion in the kitchen. I made my husband go on an onion hunt the other night because the smell on the kitchen was making me so sick. I think it was some raw onion in the trash that did me in?

@pregnantbee: I wasn't even the one chopping, that's what's so crazy! And it was like a delayed reaction after he chopped, like the smell wafted over the room and my eyes started burning a few mins later

@nana87: Hmm. I didn't notice a difference, but that's probably because I wear these silly glasses when chopping:

https://www.amazon.com/RSVP-International-Onion-Goggles-Black/dp/B002JXICSI?th=1&psc=1

They actually work for me - no more tears! They don't work with glasses, so keep that in mind.

Twice recently (as in, since I've been pregnant), I've had a WAY more intense reaction/sensitivity to onions being chopped/cooking than usual. Like, I'm not even the one cooking or directly in the kitchen (though we have an open concept layout so I'm close by) but my eyes are burning and tearing up. I'm wondering if it's related to pregnancy-increased sense of smell?

Anyone else have this random symptom? I googled but didn't see much, and I didn't notice this at all with my first pregnancy!
