The women I donated my breastmilk to for her adopted baby tried to induce lactation. She is a holistic nutritionist so using medicines aside from herbs were not an option for her personal philosophy. She began pumping a few months before the baby arrived with the help of a few LC's and tried to get her to latch and feed with an SNS usin donor milk. She gave up when the baby was a few weeks old without success.

If you would consider donor milk, which I know isn't the same emotionally as breastfeeding but would be an option for you to provide breastmilk, she had good luck with getting some through our local Human Milk for Human Babies and Eats on Feets Facebook groups. Their adopted DD was EBF for over 6 months this was with intermittent breastmilk to a year and the rest the used a homemade formula for.

I tried after quitting breastfeeding. For me, it was a giant PITA and was never very successful. I only produced about 5oz a day.

A close friend of mine did this and produced enough to breastfeed about three times a day for eight months.

I'm in a crazy reseach everything about adoption phase this weekend.

Anyone induce lactation so you can breastfeed your adopted child?

Or do you know anyone who did?

I'm curious about it.

Are there any pros/cons?
