I just turned 36 but was 35 when I had DS2. My c section had to be bumped up to 37 + 5 because of low fluid. Doctor said it was because my placenta wasn't working well anymore.

No experience, but maybe you can just request non stress tests and ultrasounds to make sure everything is okay. Hopefully if they do induce you, it will be fast since you're already dilating.

Mine just recommended an US once a week at 38 years old. My baby came on her own at 40 weeks 1 day. There are other ways to monitor and not need to be induced. You have every right to say no if it makes you feel uncomfortable.

36 years old and 39 weeks doesn't sound that risky but then again, I'm not a doctor. I can tell you that I've had an induction with Pitocin being less than 1cm dilated and it wasn't bad at all. Also there are other ways of being induced, I think.

No advice but I wanted to say I was induced with pitocin and was terrified bc Id heard so many horror stories and it wasn't as bad as if imagined. I was still able to do it without pain meds.

@MrsMccarthy: I have to agree, Pitocin induction SUCKS and is much harder when you're not already moving along. Why increase the risk of C-section over an arbitrary number?

That seems odd. I will be 36 or 37 when I deliver. I asked my OB is she would do anything different due to my age (more monitoring, etc.), and she said no. She said they really don't consider you high risk until age 40+.

That's ridiculous! Your age shouldn't have any effect on the placenta. I went till 40+5 and was induced because of low fluid and blood pressure. Usually they will at least let you go a week past due. Pitocin contractions suck and it raises chance of a c section because it can affect babies heart rate, I would try to avoid it unless there is a real reason personally or health wise.

P.s I will say this. 3cm is pretty dilated for a first time mom! I'll be shocked if you make it to term!

My doc recommended induction for me too. I was 38 at the time and I was fine with being induced so I didn't argue. If you don't want to be induced I would talk to your doctor. Good luck!

I don't know that that's an age thing-my dr mentioned it to me, too, as being an issue when you're overdue (also something she was concerned I was more at risk of) but not at 40 weeks

That's absurd. There is no good reason that 1 year should force medical intervention on you. If you really don't want Pitocin, stick to your guns - I personally think an unwarranted induction is asking for trouble. At 3 cm already it sounds like your body's getting ready. Unless your doctor can give you a legitimate medical reason to accelerate your labour (high blood pressure, infection, baby in distress), you should be very careful about intervention.

My mother was told the same thing with her two youngest. She was 36 and 37 when she had them. The youngest they actually had the due date wrong and she was born completely white covered in lanugo. Didn't look like any of it came off of her yet.

Has anyone else been told they may need to be induced because you're 35 or older? I'm 36. My doctor told me today that if baby isn't here by my due date (next Tuesday), she wants to induce because of the risk of placental deterioration . I don't want Pitocin!! Anyone else?
ETA: I'm 3cm dilated... 39 weeks tomorrow.
