@macintosh: We did IVF 4 years ago and went nearly 42 weeks late. But the doctor was pretty hands off and let me run the show so it wasn't an issue really. When we talked to a midwife (when discussing number 2) she did mention concerns with IVF babies and possible stillbirths etc. So there is some research (she shared something with us). You should try to find that research.

@macintosh: If you're being monitored for a high risk pregnancy anyway, you'll know how your placenta is functioning and they'll most likely make a decision about induction based on that. If they get a sense in 3rd tri that things aren't working well, then you'll go to the MFM for frequent monitoring and you'd get an induction date based on the situation!

DittoDitto @twodoghouse: I've never heard of this. I had IVF and I was induced, but it was because I had twins that were way past 37 weeks, which is term for twins.

@Madison43: That is interesting. I started out with a midwife practice and they didn't treat me any differently. I'm at a teaching hospital now and they are treating me as high risk (due to asthma, IVF pregnancy, and previous uterine hysteroscopic). I don't mind them taking extra precautions but I'd really like a chance to labor naturally before being induced.

@mrswin: That what I thought they meant when they originally told me, but today the midwife mentioned 39 weeks. I'll definitely keep asking questions to see if early induction can be avoided.

My MFM considered IVF pregnancies high risk, but did not induce because of it. I was induced at 38 weeks for twins. I've never heard of a connection between IVF and still births?

@macintosh: My OB who is also a MFM said that he would not let me go more than a couple of days overdue because there is some newer research that indicates that the placenta may stop working (not sure why). He will not induce early though unless it is medically necessary.

No - IVF pregnany and I went into labor on my own at 40 plus 2. When I was looking for a OB I did have one doctor tell me that because it was an IVF pregnancy, I would automatically be treated as a high risk pregnancy. My RE strongly suggested I look elsewhere, which I did.

My hospital's OB department has a policy that IVF pregnancies cannot go past due dates due to increased risk of stillbirth. This means that I may be induced when I reach 39 weeks.

Has anyone else with an IVF pregnancy faced the same thing? If you were induced, how navy weeks were you?
