It's nice because it gives everyone shade (we are not lay out in the sun people even though we do love the beach) and LO can crawl around and still be in the shade. With an umbrella even the big ones just don't offer too much shade. </p> <p>I'd also suggest a nice beach blanket. We got one and use it all the time for beach, picnics, etc. My LO hates walking on the sand so we stick her on the blanket and she stays put! We love it because it screws into the sand/dirt/grass so no matter how windy it is, it never moves!!!
