I went to those classes, and I thought they were a waste of time. I found most of the answers to my questions online, or asking others with babies. Since I found HB, its be a huge help. Wish I had found this place sooner.

@MenagerieMama: perfect I got it!

We watched the happiest baby DVDS two weeks ago.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who struggled with these classes.

Sleep books were more useful to us. For infant care, I'd just listen to the nurses at the hospital and ask Whatever questions come to mind. We took the infant care class, but I think it was a bit more helpful to my husband.

I just used hellobee for that sort of info though :)

i went to all the classes too, but didn't retain much. i kind of learned how to do things as i went along! i did read the Happiest Baby on the Block shortly after LO was born and i enjoyed it because it changed my perspective on some things.

Our nurses in the hospital were a great resource on newborn care - using the bulb syringe, when to bathe, dealing with umbilical stump etc! I think there was even some sort of handout sent home with discharge instructions if I remember correctly...

I loved a book put out by the AAP and written by doctor moms - very sensible and down to earth. I think it was called "from birth to reality: bringing your infant home" or something similar. I'll look. I'm sure it's on prime because that's where I buy everything!! I recommend it to my patients all the time and my friends have borrowed my copy a lot.

Just make sure you know how to give a bath...my infant care class didn't give us the tip to pre-heat the bathroom with a space heater and keep the kid covered in the towel most of the time so our first bath experience was a horrible cold screamy mess.

I found Dr. Spock at the library and I vaguely recall feeling like it filled in some gaps I thought I was missing...was reading it while in the sleep-deprived newborn stage so I don't remember 100%.

I didn't learn too much from my birthing class, besides where to go in the Hospital. My breastfeeding class was informational, but nothing like trying to do it in the hospital with a Lactation Consultant. I bet you are good to go! The best thing to do is to learn by doing :) and man oh man, you will get practice!

What do you feel like you need to know? You can definitely ask here, or watch YouTube videos!

We took a birth class and a breastfeeding class but nothing on general infant care. We knew how to bottle feed, change diapers, bathe, etc.

Honestly, I'd just skip it. Our infant care class sucked and I learned more from HB than the instructor. I'm not sure you'll get much more out of a book.

Soooooo I'm going to be real honest here. M and I registered for 3 classes at the hospital. Birthing, Breastfeeding and Infant Care. Neither of us is a big fan of the instructor. It's hard to explain, it's very cheesy and pedestrian and almost bad stand up with too much dare I say potty humor. I don't want to sound like a brat, I feel like we learned a few things, but these classes have not been my learning style. We have already skipped one class and going to miss another one tonight. And goodness knows I am not an expert but we do know how to swaddle, change a diaper, etc. that said... Matt and I both already read The Birth Partner. I got a breastfeeding companion care guide. That leaves a book on infant care, do you have any recommendations? Bonus points if I can get it on Amazon prime since baby girl will be here in 2 weeks.
