@QueensBee: I suggest 1 year. At that point most LOs have a few teeth to check out and we can do education for the parents. I see a lot of LOs who don't come until 2 or 3 and already have cavities because the parents are uninformed about brushing techniques and diet recommendations.

@yellowbird: Just brushed the tooth for the first time tonight. He actually loved it! At what age do you suggest seeing the dentist for the first time?

@Kemma: You should totally feel like supermom! I cannot even imagine flossing for a LO. I barely have energy to do it myself!

Thanks for the tips, everyone!

@yellowbird: I've just started flossing my LO's teeth and I feel like Supermum! Unfortunately her two front bottom teeth are quite close so she gets food stuck in them but I was surprised how cool she was with being flossed :-)

@autumnlove: I recommend introducing it as early as they can understand what you're doing. Either method is fine. Regular floss is more effective if you're able to wrap it around the tooth, but you might not be able to use it with a sqirmy toddler, so the floss picks might be a better option. Luckily most baby teeth have spacing so they're easier to clean between them.

The more you introduce and practice with flossing the easier it will become. I don't think you need to hold down your toddler to do it, but just teach them about it!

I started wiping baby 2's gums as soon as she was born because I didn't want her to fight it as much as my older LO!

@yellowbird: I'm scare to ask but when do you recommend flossing? Do you recommend regular old floss or floss picks for toddlers?

You should start brushing now. You can even massage his gums with finger brush. You can either use water or the infant toothpaste. You only need a very small dot on the end of the massager/brush. I find it easier to actually use an infant toothbrush than the finger brush!

LO is six and a half months old and his first tooth popped up about a week ago. Gummy smile, no more! And, he has another one on the way!

When should I start brushing his teeth?

Yesterday I bought some flouride free baby toothpaste from BabyGanics and a massaging toothbrush:

http://www.amazon.com/BabyGanics-Flouride-Toothpaste-Strawberry-Ounce/dp/B006JUZBYA

http://www.amazon.com/MAM-Massaging-Brush-Sensitive-First/dp/B0039634TG

I want to make sure we don't fall behind on oral hygiene but I also don't want him to be swallowing toothpaste if he doesn't need it yet.

What did other bees do? When did you start brushing? How many times a day?

Thanks!
