E had awful eczema. It was all over her head, too! And it made her so damn crabby. I tried aquaphor but it made her so slick and disgusting. We used the prescription cream for a week and then dropped to every other day use for another week.

We've been using CJ's Butter: http://www.cjsuniqueboutique.com/CJs-BUTTer_c_53.html

And it is freaking amazing stuff. I give her a warm bath EVERY night (it helps eczema..when it was REALLY bad, i put a little Aveeno colloidal oatmeal in it) and then slather her body in this. It's very natural, absorbs into her skin, and has done a great job clearing her skin up. I put it on morning and night and it started to clear up. Now i just do it at night and if she has a few spots in the morning. The website even specifically sings its praises for eczema, haha. The milk and honey scent is my favorite. Also the mango, mint, sugar.

I think hers is triggered by sweat and heat. Oh and trapped spit up or sweat. I'll wipe her down with a warm rag if she gets really grody.

@butterbean: I think the most important part is to wet the area first even if it is a quick soak with a washcloth on his face.

We have a pretty hefty dairy allergy that was diagnosed by our pediatrician. I have been on a dairy/soy elimination diet since he was 8 weeks!

Dairy and soy are the two most common allergens for babes. You might be OK with eggs. Eggs are a staple for me and my LO for the protien!

I just came off a diary trial this weekend - Per the pedi, if the allergy isn't gone by 18 months we'll see an allergist.

@Adira: eczema stinks!

@littlebittyhouse: i'll try the vanicream (right now we slather him in cetaphil and apply aquaphor in the affected areas)

i thought about food allergies - i cut out wheat/gluten and will probably try cutting out eggs/dairy next...did you go to an allergist? or just do an elimination diet?

We battled it for about 6mo - then I changed our tactic! I was bathing infrequently and applying aquaphor or calendula cream like whoa with no real change.

What helped us is a daily 'soak and seal' - warm (not hot) tub to add moisture to the skin and then immediately after barely drying him off would slather him in vanicream.
http://www.amazon.com/Vanicream-Moisturizing-Cream-Dispenser-Pound/dp/B000NWGCZ2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1373292474&sr=8-1&keywords=vanicream

The theory behind the soak and seal is that moisturizer doesn't really add moisture, it just locks mositure in. So by combining the soak and then the moisturizer you get a double whammy :)

The moistuizer is AMAZING and a lot of moms swear by it. It has worked wonders for us. It is not greasy like aquaphor and is about a million times better! You can buy it at Walgreens too.

Have you thought about food allergies? Soy is an eczema trigger for us.

I love my 6 month old son to the moon and back and i would do anything for him. He has been dealing with infant eczema since he was a few weeks old and while the topical cream that the doctor prescribed offered a "band-aid", i'm tired of applying various creams/moisturizers because sometimes i feel like it does more harm than good. there are times where i cry because i don't know how to help treat his eczema...

Right now, he has a horrible and stubborn rash around his mouth and chin, which has been around for a couple of months. The doctor increased the strength of the topical cream, which helped about 70%.

I bought some california baby calendula cream but i don't think DS likes it because he seems to whine everytime i apply it around his mouth.

i think i'm just going to stick with aquaphor and hope for the best...

welcome any advice, encouragement or tips
