We also have a Stearns that goes up to 30lbs. We bought it last year when she was 11 months old and about 18lbs, she's 23lbs now at 22 months and it still fits great.

We had a boat inspection over the weekend and he told us the best way to tell if a life jacket (with the pillow in the back) fits correctly is to pick the child up by the loop on top and if it doesn't go up past their neck it's correctly sized.

This picture is from last year

Once they are 30lbs, I would highly recommend a puddle jumper. They are certified PFDs and my LO loves it!

Thanks for asking this question! I was literally about to Google this. My ILs have a boat and were already talking about taking our future LO out on it (although they are crazy and were talking about taking the baby out at like 3 weeks.... HECK NO). I wanted to find some information on boat safety and voila! Infant life vests! :)

Ours is West Marine and we are happy with it. The infant size goes up to 30 lbs. Whatever brand you choose, make sure it is a Type 1. That is the most comprehensive and should flip your LO on to his or her back if needed.

My brother asked me to buy life jackets for my two nephews this summer. They are both under 30 lbs so I got the Sterns ones that go over their heads and has a wet suit/onsie for the bottom that snaps. Like @swurlygurl's. When I was shopping there were life jacket type ones like the adult ones where you pull over your shoulders and zip up (it, also, did not have a pillow). I wanted something safer that would keep them in the suit. So I ended up with the Sterns one.

I have a picture but need to block out my nephew's face.

We got one from Overtons.com - it had a lot of great ratings, was USCG approved and Type II. It looks a lot more comfy than some of the other ones
Here she is trying it on :)

ETA: She's 5.5 months and 15ish pounds

I think Stearns make the best ones. Just make sure you get one that is coast guard approved.

We have a puddle jumper by stearns and I have heard they are one of the best

Does anyone have any recommendations for an infant life jacket? We're going to be spending some time on a boat in the next few weeks and we gotta keep the little man safe! He's 6 mo and 19 lbs.
