She was in her swing until 6 months. She slept beautifully in her crib overnight, but refused to take more than a 20 minute nap in her crib so we stuck with the swing in the living room until she got too big for it :p

We then went cold turkey and it took her a few weeks to adjust. Now she naps in her crib no problem.

The first few weeks it was wherever we were in her by your side sleeper. Then the swing in the family room. Now she naps in her swing in her nursery.

We've been consistently doing all sleep in his crib since 5 months? Maybe earlier but at least by 5. Months 2-4 were the hardest sleep wise. He wouldn't sleep unless we were holding him or was in the swing. We were so frustrated. Eventually he grew out of it though and now we rock him to sleep and put him in his cribs for nap and bed times. I can't get drowsy but awake to work either. Lol

@Meridian: At that age, she took the majority of her naps on me or in her swing (bless the swing!). Now she takes them in her crib with the blackout curtains up (she is 15 months old).

at 3 months we do something similar to you. except i usually don't bother transferring her back to her crib/rock n play the last time...

it's probably not the right thing to do but it works for us right now.

Before 5 months she napped anywhere she wanted, including in my arms. My nanny started working with her on crib naps around 5 months and ever since then has taken them their. It wasn't until 6 months that she got on a solid,
Predictable nap schedule.

LO has napped exclusively in her bedroom since 8 weeks. she sleeps much better if it is dark and quiet (except for white noise). she is super sensitive to sound/distraction/light.

@Meridian: My son (7 weeks today) is a really bad napper. It took us a few weeks to figure out that he gets overstimulated super easily, so for him he needs to sleep in the nursery with blackout curtains, typically in his vibrating RNP. Even then, we're lucky to get beyond 30-40 minutes at a time. However, this week he's been falling asleep on us, and we've been moving him to the nursery and trying to set him in his crib. It's such a "dance"-one time it took me 6 hours to get him solidly down to sleep. Mom fail! Hang in there-here's hoping good sleep is in both of our futures!

How old is he? We've been doing naps in the crib consistently since 2 mo and all sleeping in the crib since 4. Lately (11 mo) I'm finding she's not settling as well for her nap so I'm thinking of getting black out curtains.
I definitely think it's worth encouraging good sleep habits early. It's hard at first but you'll be happy you did.

Depended on her age, but the real answer is wherever the f I could get her to sleep. I spent many nap hours sitting in her room in the dark browsing HB on my phone, while she napped in my arms. Earlier I used to be able to at least sit in the living room and watch tv but that started distracting her.

I usually have to do a 3-part nap with LO... I've been diligently trying to put him down in his crib in his darkened nursery, "drowsy-but-awake" (so damn hard, it only works 1/3 of the time!!). He'll start to cry anywhere from 5 - 30 mins later. If it's only been 5 - 15 mins, I'll try and give him his pacifier or hold/soothe him and put him back in his crib. If it's closer to 30 mins, I'll bring him out to the living room and hold him back to sleep while I watch TV. And then after another 30 mins when I know he's zonked out again, I'll try and transfer him to the swing so I can have my arms back and hopefully get a few things done.

*phew* It is SUCH a process, but I can usually get him to do a 1.5 - 2 hour nap this way. Am I crazy for trying this hard? What do you guys do??
