@maybebaby: this has happened to us. It's the only monitor we've tried but I think it sucks. We only use it for the 10 minutes it take for LO to fall asleep. It has pretty significant background noise/static that I can't stand. We shut it off when LO falls asleep and only turn it back on to see her when we hear her crying. The upside is that since I hate it and shut it off so much I'm not a slave to the monitor, checking it all the time, like I thought I would be.

@maybebaby: don't know if that makes it "your fault" or if it's just crappy design. :) it should stand up to a little wear and tear without falling apart.

@MamaJ: I also had this monitor and the battery totally sucks! Barely keeps a charge for more than 15 minutes. It just broke on me after 16 months of use - LO threw it and dislodged something inside so the sound doesn't work - so we has to buy a new one. Hated shelling out $ but secretly glad bc I hated this monitor.

@Mrs. Tricycle: Hmmm I wonder if that could be it? I may be misdirecting my anger at the company when it could have been my fault! I will check right now--thank you!

I have this monitor and we haven't had any problems. I'd be upset as well if that happened with mine!

@maybebaby: I have this monitor and this maybe has happened once? I have notice that if the monitor gets dropped the battery looses connection. I have to take the back off and put the battery in and out a few times before it works.

@MamaJ: the charge thing is so annoying. i just got off the phone and they're like, we can send you a new unit...i don't know if i WANT a new unit, i want a monitor that functions!

I have an Infant Optics, too. That hasn't happened to me, but I have forgotten to plug it in a few times and every time I wake up with a start and quickly plug it in and he's usually just starting to stir. Once when he was teeny I woke up to him screaming and I felt absolutely wretched. But he was fine. But again, that was my error - I didn't plug it in. The charge lasts only about 4 hours, which isn't great, but from what I've read most others don't last much longer.

Either way, no worries, mama - happens to all of us at some point, I'm sure!

I have the same monitor and I hate it! It never holds a charge either. The little charging light goes on and off when it's on the charger, when I unplug it, it shuts off! I'm hoping it completely dies soon so I can buy a new one.

My Motorola video monitor has acted up once or twice. One time it froze and I got really concerned that my LO hadn't moved for a really long time. Another time the camera mysteriously disconnected from the parent unit. It sucks but I think all of them have glitches from time to time.

I read somewhere once that moms are extremely sensitive to their baby's cry, even when asleep and in another room. I know this is true for me. We use monitors anyway, but when LO was a newborn I would go to bed really early and DH would stay up with the baby until around midnight. I would always wake up if he started crying, even without the monitor, door closed, sound machine, etc.

I have accidentally had the volume off on our monitor too. I woke up and felt SO guilty. But I think that if she was really crying I would have heard her. I wake up multiples times to go to the bathroom and never saw the light anything but green and I always look at her, and every time she was sleeping. So I think it was just a night where she actually slept all night.

This was my worst nightmare. Last night, I woke up with a start, for no reason. LO is 10 weeks old, and if he sleeps extra long my parent brain wakes me up to check to make sure he is OK. Well, this AM I woke up at 1:30 am and the monitor, which was plugged in and on my nightstand and powered on when I went to sleep, was off. Completely off. I jumped out of bed and ran to his room, and he was crying! Thank GOD not hysterical or red in the face crying, and he actually had his eyes closed so he may have just been sleep crying, which he does and usually doesn't wake him up. But I was SO freaked out I scooped him up and held him tight. What if I hadn't awoken until morning? We have a small apartment so his room is nearby, but between white noise, our AC, his fan, etc., there is no way of knowing if I would have heard him if he got hysterical.

I brought him back to our room after that to sleep in the RnP because I no longer trusted the monitor. I kept the monitor on to see what would happen, and in the AM it was off again.

I have a voicemail in with the company...we'll see what happens.

Has anything like this happened to anyone else?
