Thanks you guys. While I didn't end up going to the doctor, I'm pretty sure it was a foremilk/hindmilk thing. I fed her from one boob for two feedings to make sure that she was getting hindmilk and her poops turned back to normal. Phew!

It is worth the copay for peace of mind. You aren't crazy for calling the doctor. Now, in my case we had many of the same symptoms that you described. It ended up being an intolerance to milk and soy (MSPI). My doctor wasn't terribly helpful in it. I diagnosed it by going on an elimination diet. So, try the block feeding (feeding from only one side to get all the hindmilk) and remove milk and soy from your diet. If it gets better, then add one of those things back in and observe.

Le leche league or a lactation consultant may also be helpful for this.

it sounds to me like 2 things - 1, she might be getting too much foremilk and not enough hindmilk. When the baby doesnt get enough hindmilk, the poop can look frothy because it ahs sugh a high sugar content. 2-the back specks typically mean an excess of iron or some blood. The blood can be caused by irritation in the stomach or intestines from an allergy (typically dairy) or it can be caused by the excess of foremilk as it is rough on the digestive system. Most times, I only nurse Liv on one side per feeding. Im producing enough for her to get full off of one side. If I were to switch, she'd only be getting foremilk. You could try that. Dont switch her sides until she is says she is done on one side

Call the pedi just to be sure, but this sounds like a foremilk issue

Total guess, but maybe her digestive tract is irritated by something you ate? I would definitely call the peds just to be sure.

My first instinct is that maybe you've changed something in your diet. Even something as small as changing to a different type of drink, or a new snack? If nothing has changed, though, perhaps a quick call to the ped's office could ease your fears.

My daughter is 3.5months old and for the last 1.5months she has been exclusively breastfed (we used to supplement with formula a couple of times a week).

She has a huge, major poop in the morning (like clockwork) and maybe one more in the afternoon.

Her last 3 morning poops have been foamy with black specks in it.

What the heck is going on???
