We used the Nuna Pipa with our first and will use it again for our second. I love that seat! My first son was over 9 lbs so having a lighter seat was nice plus the install is about as easy as they come, I do think the Mesa is easy as well. The rigid latch is amazing. I am also very aware of the fabric on items that the baby spends a lot of time in so the additional certifications on Nuna products was very important to me. The Mesa now comes in a wool which I think is another strong option. It all depends on priorities.

I loved our Chicco Keyfit 30 so I'd be inclined to get another, but I think BRU now has a Chicco exclusive that fits babies up to 35 inches and/or a heavier weight with the goal of reaching age 2, so I'd be interested in that. Don't remember the name and no time to search....

@lilyofthewest: not being able to do a baseless install is a deal breaker for me personally. It means I can’t fly with it or would have to pack the base the use it when traveling.

@bees_knees: the difference in weight was worth it for me. I have to go up and down 15 stairs several times a day to get in and out of it condo. And installing across a ton of vehicles is so easy.
@misolee: I’ve never used another car seat but have watched friends who have to move their Chico’s or other seats between cars and t looked to be a pain. Also a few lbs makes a lot of difference once you add a baby

@bees_knees: We used our UppababyMesa for both our kids. We had a UB Cruz stroller, so it made sense. We have very tall children and they were both in convertibles by 10 months old even though the weight wasn't an issue.

We love the Mesa for its ease of installation, although I cannot compare it to the KeyFit. However, both my kids have the Nextfit for their convertibles and we love them so much. Definitely spring for the Zip version however. DS1 has the original and DS2 has the Zip and its night and day the ease of cleaning those things. The install is really great and my oldest, who's 40 months old, is still rear facing in his, even though he's super tall.

Personally, I would keep your KeyFit and use it for the new baby, get the convertible for a Christmas present in December, and the buy a new seat when your next baby arrives.

@bees_knees: We still have our angry-making Aton so could use that on flights if needed. The regular Pipa's dream drape thing is nice, but, pretty much any canopy would be an upgrade from what we're used to so it isn't a big consideration for me.

@misolee: we don’t have a travel system...just an InStep Jogger for a double and a MB Nano which we rarely use. I mostly babywear so not worried at all about stroller compatibility.

@lilyofthewest: pretty sure the Nuna Lite doesn’t have a canopy? Or maybe it does, but not the “Dream on Me” one (or whatever it’s called). Pretty sure it’s also not FAA approved if that’s something that you need. Full disclosure: I’m already struggling with spending the money for the Pipa, so I haven’t researched the Pipa Lite much ;)

Has anyone tried the Pipa LITE? It's a good 3lbs lighter than any other seat available, but you can't do a baseless install.

We had a Cybex Aton (original/plain) for LO1, but I'm strongly considering replacing it for #2. It was far and away smallest and lightest seat available then, but there's other similar or lighter-weight contenders now. The Aton was obscenely difficult to tighten, the cover is handwash/air dry only, and the canopy is a tiny joke.

what are you going to use for the stroller? I have an almost 2 year old but we don't plan on getting a double. I was looking at the Nuna Pipa and Tavo combo...

@misolee: I’ve found certain colors on sale for $199 (Albee Baby is one site) but they are either backordered or girly (which prob shouldn’t bother me, but we are having another boy ha). The Nuna Pipa Jett says “end of January” for shipping but I’m prob being induced around the 25th sooooo....

I'm due with my 3rd soon too and we don't have an infant carseat. :meh: We used Britax Bsafe for both our first and second and was looking at the Nuna Pipa. Is it worth it? and WHERE is on sale?

@Littlebit7: do you think it’s worth the extra $$$ (compared to the Chicco?). It’s an extra $100+ (since I can get the Chicco on sale for 20% off at Albee Baby right now!)

The pipa is amazing. It’s SO light (much lighter than Chicco or Mesa) and a ridiculously simple latch and belt install. It also has a load leg which not many seats have.
I actually think I saw the pipa on sale somewhere recently (and it doesn’t go on sale often)

We skipped the infant and used the Maxi Cosi Pria 70 and Chicco Nextfit. If you like the easy install the Nexfit is super easy. I ended up selling my Pria in favor of another Nexfit. Both were on par with the infant insert and getting LO in a nice recline position. Obviously, if you plan on taking the car seat out of the car frequently this isn’t a good solution, but it is an option for just one car seat through the years.

I have the Uppbaby and will be using it again for my second coming soon. I used it with latch and found it pretty easy to use up to her first birthday. She was a chunky girl and it seemed light enough, although I'm sure there are lighter options. But I was really happy with it!

I’m due in 3 week and just sold our only infant seat—am I insane?! Maybe 😂

It was a Chicco Keyfit 30 which we LOVED for LO1&2, but just realized it expires in December (and we aren’t done yet!) so we may as well sell it while it’s still worth something.

Anyways. Now what do we buy? Another Chicco? Nuna Pipa? Something else? Heeeeelp?

We won’t have a low birth weight baby, nor do we need to worry about any stroller compatibility. We’ll be installing with latch, but bonus if it’s an easy seatbelt install. Double bonus if it’s lightweight since I grow giant babies.
